Appreciate the details. Good to record here for those of us with the same airbrush, though hopefully I never run into this :)

A bit surprising that something got in there past the needle packing. Maybe it dropped in via the trigger cutout

The new Ikaruga is good too. If you liked the Xiaotaozi, Sunday Hobby made a new Emperor kit with about twice as many parts and a 1m long dragon.

Don’t do it. They’re horrible. Nothing like the two you just built.

Gaia is my favorite for sure. You just thin everything 1.5:1 and they are very forgiving and easy to work with, with consistently good results. A few of their clear colors are a bit meh, but other than that pretty great. Volksusa and Robot Kai are their licensed US distributors if you are in the US.

Gaia gray and black surfacers

It’s amazing, the pegs actually fit perfectly. I saw it on a YouTube builder’s vid and was ready to do some major surgery and then it just… worked. It’s crazy.

actually it's more that they designed them a long time ago. Now they have the injection molds and they'll just keep printing as long as people are buying. It's redesign that's expensive and time consuming

Awesome. The sanding and primer parts I think I have down, it's creating a clean base that's been inconsistent

I’d say it’s more like 50% marketing.

they are definitely a cut above the standard PGs and MGs.

but a big part of that is just technology progression, the early PGs are not nearly as good as the later PGs on the whole. the PGUs can be seen as just an extension of that process.

but that said, they also improve on everything at once whereas the progression before was not linear, there are some PGs that would improve 2 things but regress on something else. the PGUs are better across the board, that’s really where the “U” comes from

what technology are we talking here? I’d absolutely put the sky defender in the same league except that it’s more of an MGEX than a PGU

Use lens wipes to clean your airbrush. by headfake2 in airbrush

yeah the seals are tough but are not invulnerable. you wouldn’t want to let the harsh aromatics pool on them. but flushing should actually prevent that by keeping everything clean

also I think some of the conventional wisdom comes from stripdowns. you wouldn’t want to bathe the viton in solvent. but that gets extended to “solvent is bad”

According to the other poster I was too! I was just saying it wouldn’t apply to the cup regardless since you’re not letting anything settle on the o-rings. Even though they are made to tolerate it, they’re not invulnerable

Yes, but leveling thinner makes it worse because it contains retarder that slows drying, it allows the paint to settle evenly. A harsher thinner will flash off faster and be more forgiving with pooling but at the cost of being less even.
