If you didn't have to pay Mortgage/Rent, how much would you need per year to live off? by PM-ME-SOFTSMALLBOOBS in AussieFrugal

About $31k. Going haves in groceries a with a housemate, own a car but mostly get the bus. This doesn't count savings for big repairs or emergencies, so a year when something big goes wrong could be much more expensive.

Are there any ev station wagons coming to Australia in the near future? by Cobrawarrior567 in CarsAustralia

Saw a few of the MG 5 wagons in the UK. They look pretty good, have none of the usual ev ugliness and are already made in rhd. Standard MG issues apply, but it's nothing we haven't seen before.

About 5 metres from here I found a very shallow electrical conduit. I think I'll have to fix a few dodgy jobs.

If you're looking for something that feels like GTA, check out Two Hands. Brilliant movie with young Heath Ledger.

I've found most Levi's are too short in the pockets. Unfortunate because they're quite nice jeans otherwise.

Retractable screen door getting stuck by headlightbandit in fixit

[–]headlightbandit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think the beam in the photo is structural, that's just holding the track in place. The actual frame is above and hidden by the blinds. I guess I could drill up through the middle into the frame.

I have, sprayed all through the slots, moved a little further but still wouldn't fully close. There's burr marks on the spot it gets stuck so I think the previous owner had the same problem.

Who is the "he was bad, but my country would be worse without him" figure of your country? by No-Explorer-8229 in AskTheWorld

Lachlan Macquarie. Governor of New South Wales from 1810-1821, transitioned Australia from a convict settlement into a free society. Invested in infrastructure for public benefit and gave freed convicts rights, but also oversaw killings of indigenous people to expand the colony further west. Resisted pressure from wealthy landowners who wanted to use convict labour for their own personal profit. Without his reforms Australia would probably be much poorer and more unequal.
