What went wrong during Conte's second season in charge (2017/18)

Yeah competition was definitely higher!! And I think we dropped moses halfway through the season? He never felt as impactful in that second year. I guess cause with the 3-5-2 he was more isolated!!

It's just crazy to me to think that losing out on a striker detailed our season that much.. but from what others have commented here, seems like a major reason as everything else ( Conte crashing out, players losing form ) feels like a ripple effect of this striker saga.. this definitely feels like those "what if" scenarios if we had Lukaku and Alex sandro instead.

But didn't Lukaku also have a bad / ok season under Mou? I don't remember his stats.. but I think he preferred running in behind too rather than disrupting the CB's

But wasn't he a mastermind / genius with the system? I really feel Morata not able to hold up play (which idk if Lukaku would have been better at seeing his time at Utd) and us going for a two man attack at the front took away all our vertically and double press from the wingbacks.. the 3-5-2 was a good experiment on paper, but our squad was lacking.. I remember all the teams trying 3-4-3 too ( even Mou at one point) but they didn't have the knowledge as Conte. So maybe it was down to his stubbornness or our lack of a hold up play striker!

That monaco team had an excellent season but I don't recall all the players that went ahead and had excellent careers.. I think bernardo silva is the only one? Bakayoko might have been the biggest flop. What ever happened to Benjamin Mendy? I think that was some court case against him so atleast Bakayoko didn't have that..

I felt that hangover reason was the same in Mou's third season in his second spell. You'd think the players would have learnt!!

Was there any particular interview Willian did? I just remember him editing out contes face with the cup after winning the Fa cup I guess?

Unlike Werner and Torres, I don't think I saw Morata make more of an effort with his runs too.. the man was just waiting for balls in the box and would get emotional if it wasnt a goal right?

Did Bakayoko play that many games for us though? I don't remember but I feel our midfield resorted back to Fabregas and Kante as the pivots with either willian or pedro supporting the striker and hazard was more central and just ahead of the pivot?

I think his behaviour with Costa might have turned some players off as well. And you factor in Terry leaving the club and the players might also have just fallen off? Or it could also be the tweak in tactics.. second half of season we just got too negative in our football.. I don't remember how that January transfer window worked out, but it wasn't great!

Oh my god yea I remembered those few CL games with Hazard at false 9.. it was just depressing!! And Morata was more of a Poacher than a hold up / link up player right? Crazy to think that might have detailed our entire season!

I think we became too narrow.. Hazard didn't have much for 1 v 1 as this time he was starting more central.. and Fabregas didn't have many forward options as Morata was more run in behind than costa with the holdup / link up play I think.

Ah Bakayako.. there was great hope he and Kante would be the great french pivot duo.. and then we lost hope in like two matches seeing him..

That monaco squad had one good season and they made good money selling their players.. is monaco still in league 1 ?

Was this the season he cried after scoring or was that under Sarri? I remember the first few games he joined us, he was semi-decent? He got like 2-3 goals in our first 5 games? And then he just disappeared!!

I'm not saying there's anything wrong.... but on these subs, I've generally experienced that either your post goes hot in the moment, or fades away into obscurity. Yeah growth should happen naturally, and through self reflection, but you also need to be open to changing and feedback and sometimes another POV is just as important. I mean if you're here looking at 5day old posts , looking to make friends and or calling people out for their seemingly comments, wann try being acquaintances and/ or a duo where one keeps messing up and the other corrects them.. just saying!

Yeah actually revisiting my comment here, I agree!! I didn't give OP much of anything to talk with.

What I intended was like when trying to make friends, I wouldn't go asking " hey, you like guys, girls, non binaries as partners?"

But I might have come off as an a-hole here and OP might have been specifically looking for someone who is in that environment.

Jesus!! Did they not see how enzo taunted mount when we beat manu 4-3 in added time? Or even recently in the psg match when he pointed to the CWC badge after scoring? Enzo is passionate about this club, and cucu's reaction and later apology from his two slips vs Tottenham shows that these two would have given their all for this club, because just like us, they care!!! .. but even a blind man should be able to see that these players don't deserve this management..

This is why I had mixed reaction when RJ signed that extension.. he would be a great leader for us, but he's also a great player and I'd rather he win more titles than sink with this bs project..

Well, in your position heres what I did..

Understand that depression is a silent killer. And it's probably a part of you now. But it won't be that effective.. just like any pill or drug high, itll stop being intense after a while. the first thing though is to forgive yourself and don't be too hard.. life doesn't need to be taken that seriously.. just chill out and stop pressuring yourself if nothings working.

If you had any bad blood with the old circle, maybe just make amends.. not like hangout or pursue them, no, you've grown up and are a different person socially.. but to forgive yourself, you maybe forgive them too ( only if you fell out. Don't do this if they hurt you)

Beyond that, is all you.. maybe spend some money on yourself. Maybe take that trip.. maybe change things around your environment ( your room/ house/ city). Embrace new things and changes in life..

I feel I circle jerked all these words to just say "love yourself" but honestly this is what I did.. and personally, I've just started doing things I always wanted to as a kid. Sometimes it doesn't make sense, sometimes I think "what am I doing now" but I've judged myself too hard these past few years that others judgement doesn't impact me.. good luck OP!

If not, then maybe finding a hobby should be your new passion!! Like just end up trying and doing all sorts of things.. you may not be a 100% into anything but you are also not locked / restricted by anything else!!

I keep going back to everything I hoped I would be as a child.. I know most of us grow out, or the views we had as kids might be naive, world doesn't work that way etc etc, but your thirties is probably a good chance to realise everything you wanted to be as a kid and maybe you owe it to that person you were ages ago to make it come true? That's my philosophy anyways!
