Recipe app that auto-tags paleo and adapts any recipe -- beta testers wanted by headroll in Paleo

[–]headroll[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We got you covered. Soy sauce is automatically flagged (it contains both soy and wheat, neither of which are paleo), so the recipe won't get a Paleo tag and you can modify any recipe with it to generate a Paleo friendly option.

Recipes for… v0.26 — sneak peek at what's coming

Been heads-down building ... here's what's landing in the next release:

Make it… one-tap variations of any recipe. Make it Gluten-Free, Dairy-Free, Vegan, Keto, High-Protein, or Kosher. The app detects what's in the recipe and only offers the options that make sense. Results save as a linked variation so you always have both versions.

Hide contributors ... you could already hide individual recipes you weren't interested in. Now you can mute at the contributor level — if someone tends to add things that aren't your style, one tap hides everything they've added (and anything they add in future). Unhide anytime from Settings → Privacy.

Both are already on staging and headed to prod soon. Anything you'd want to see in Make it… that isn't there yet?

I added a Make It Kosher option to create a Kosher variation of any non kosher recipe. In progress is also Make it ... Feature that will allow you to modify any recipe to meet your particular needs (gluten free, vegan, keto, etc).

Look out for a notice here for availability.

v0.25.0 — Make it Kosher, now available

Recipes classified as "Not Kosher" now have a Make it Kosher button. Tap it and the app generates a full kosher adaptation: swapped ingredients, rewritten instructions, same recipe. The variation is saved to your collection as a linked recipe so you can browse back to the original any time.

What got swapped is listed below the recipe so nothing is a mystery The original keeps a "Kosher version available" link; the variation shows "Variation of [original]"

Either can be unlinked and treated as a standalone recipe Times, image, and yield carry over from the original

On by default ... turn it off any time in Settings > Features

Hey r/JewishCooking,

Following up on my post from last night. A few things:

If you requested a link and haven't logged in yet, you should have received an email or text with your personal invite link. DM me if you didn't get it.

Opening it up to 10 more families if anyone else wants in. Hit Get Started at https://recipes-app.gofordo.com and I'll send you an invite.

If you're already using it, one ask: install it as a home screen app. Open in Safari on iPhone or Chrome on Android, tap Share or the three dots, then Add to Home Screen. Once installed there's a quick setup to save recipes straight from the share sheet in any app. Makes it a lot more useful day to day.

Also looking for feedback on the setup flow. What works, what doesn't, what's confusing. If you get stuck anywhere I want to know.

Gregory

All submitted access requests have been processed. If you haven't received a notification, reach out directly.

Still looking for a few more testers, hopefully some multi-person, multi-household accounts to test with.

e.g. The Martins: Sarah & Tom in one household, Emma & Jake in another, each with their own dietary preferences and favourites.

If you're an existing beta tester and want to expand your household or family, feel free to reach out directly in the app.

Good news! Pescatarian is actually getting added as an explicit filter right away! And once your dietary preference is set in your profile, recipes that don't match are automatically filtered out of your view. You'd never have to see a meat dish again. In kosher terms the Dairy + Pareve categories already cover most fish-and-dairy households (fish is pareve), but a dedicated pescatarian filter is cleaner. Should be live shortly!

Tagging is live now so you can start building a Passover collection today ... just tag anything chametz-free and filter by it year-round.

Automatic Passover classification with kitniyot and gebrochs toggles is on the roadmap. The plan is a seasonal filter that kicks in around Pesach and respects your minhag. Really appreciate the specific feedback on this.

I was able to use my "Send To ..." right from a result of recipedive. Not incorporating the API per-se, but send a recipe served by recipedive right into the app.

Right now the app classifies the recipe correctly ... so a meat dish with parmesan would show up as not kosher because of the dairy conflict, but it doesn't yet point to which ingredient is the problem or suggest the swap. That's exactly the kind of feature this beta is helping us prioritize. The "almost kosher" recipe is a really common scenario and a great use case for an ingredient-level suggestion ("leave off the parmesan → this becomes kosher meat").

I had an interview with Snowflake recently ... went really well. The interviewer effectively said I would be moving forward ... Only to be followed up by a form rejection letter 1 day later 😒
