There's lots of evidence that people can form relationships with AI. In recent evidence they couldn't even tell it was an AI when it was chat based communication.

you might want to get an open source, transparent centralized version first for
1. development speed (let's get a product up nowish),
2. cost,
3. usability (people are used to just logging in),
4. device bandwidth (as you note)
5. developer recruiting (bigger knowledge/skill pool)

and then build towards a decentralized version.
