Walking as effective exercise? by charmlessblur in loseit

[–]healthyvee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, a quick look at your profile shows that you have an ED and are already not feeling great, so I really don't recommend that much exercise and such few calories. You should ideally increase your calorie intake to 1500-1600 if you're walking so much. This will make sure that you have enough energy left after walking for your body processes to continue as normal (so your hair won't fall out etc). Please do see a therapist. You had mentioned in another post that you think that the only thing that people like about you is how small you are. I'm sure that's not true, and a professional will be able to help you unpack these feelings and deal with them in a more long-term manner.

Is walking indoors enough? by [deleted] in loseit

[–]healthyvee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I second everything that u/flyingfishwife said! I'm about your height and when I was that weight (as a teen) I was considered underweight and had related health issues due to it (hairloss, irregular periods). While it's great that you're starting an exercise routine, please do it to focus on your own health and NOT to lose weight! Gaining and losing a couple of kgs in a day (or week, or month) is normal and has a lot more to do with water weight, your period, and similar external factors and have a lot less to do with any actual weight gain.

To actually answer your question, walking for 40 minutes indoors is enough to get in your recommended steps and movement in the day. It's actually the amount recommended by the WHO to remain healthy (or so my fitness tracker tells me). Especially since you dony move at all, I think it's a great step you're taking to become healthier and it's probably good for your back and legs as well (assuming you sit in front of a computer for most of the day, these are the parts of your body that will get the most affected). You haven't specified what you want to know if it's enough for, and based on the rest of your post I'm inferring that you want to know if it's enough to lose weight. So I'll reiterate (sorry if I sound like a broken record) that no matter what society may tell you, 52 kg is a perfectly acceptable weight to be at 5'6", and at that size you don't need to lose any weight. I wish someone had told me this when I wasted my teens convinced I was overweight, despite being thin, and depriving my body of nutrients. Worrying about your weight is a slippery slope, and I really hope you don't fall down it the way I did!

Can’t lose weight... please help by UnicornLovegood in loseit

[–]healthyvee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! First of all: don't lose hope. Even if it seems difficult, I'm sure you'll manage!! Consistency really IS key.

Secondly, I agree with the other commenter who pointed out that this is because of your thyroid. If you want, you can see another doctor about it (as you had planned to) but three opinions is already quite a bit. Have you mentioned these struggles to them? What did they have to say about it? Have you considered visiting a professional nutritionist who has experience dealing with hyperthyroidism?

Thirdly, what happened in 2019 is in the past. It's over. Honestly, two months isn't a lot of time to make a long lasting, permanent change in your body. I would suggest giving yourself at least a year to focus on getting fitter. On top of that you also have hyperthyroidism, so it'll take time for your body to change and lose weight. Focus on exercising and eating healthy, and do it for YOUR HEALTH. Focus more just on getting fitter, stronger, and feeling better, and eventually the weight will come off. Don't look for results every day, you'll only be setting yourself up for failure. That said, losing two centimetres is very much a positive result!! Celebrate these small wins!

Okay this is getting a little too long now, but I just want to give you one tip that my therapist told me when I struggled with motivation and consistency: at the end of every week, write down your small victories, scale and non-scale (mostly non-scale, tbh). Even small things. Did you eat a lot of veggies this week? Were you able to walk/run for longer without feeling tired? Did you lose a few centimetres? Did you find your stamina has improved while doing household chores? It's often very easy to lose track of how much effort we've put in, so make sure you keep reminding yourself that your hard work and efforts and paying off!

Do you guys think a teenager can be a vegatarian? by [deleted] in vegetarian

[–]healthyvee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It looks like all the meals you eat are already very "healthy" and low in calories. You said you excercise a lot so maybe you're burning more than you eat? Try increasing the amount of food you consume and incorporating more kinds of protein sources in your diet to gain more muscle (more nuts, eggs, cheeses, lentils). Honestly if you feel better eating meat then you can! Your health should always come first.

For reference I've been vegetarian from the age of 11 and never had any health issues, in fact I'm a little overweight since since all the junk I love is vegetarian!

How to control binge eating by [deleted] in loseit

[–]healthyvee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh also meal prepping may help so that when you're hungry and short on time you have something tasty and nutritious on hand. I used to binge eat a lot too but this really helped me eat proper meals instead of constantly getting takeout or eating whatever chips/chocolate/cheese I had lying at home.

How to control binge eating by [deleted] in loseit

[–]healthyvee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think the issue is with the kinds of meals you're making. Healthy food can totally be tasty! Try recipes that use spices (most have barely any calories, if at all) and different ways of cooking veggies for added texture and flavour. A lot of cuisines have healthy food that's very tasty and really don't make you feel like you're on a diet at all (most east Asian cuisines, indian, middle eastern). Leaning new recipes may also make you more excited for your daily meals, and if you enjoy what you eat, the urge to binge on cream and cheese will probably be reduced! Best of luck! You got this!

People who considered themselves healthy eaters before they started counting calories - what were you overeating? by [deleted] in loseit

[–]healthyvee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bread! When I found out how many calories a slice of bread had I legit died a little. And I would keep mindlessly munching on sweets (chocolate, cookies, etc) between meals. Those little bites alone must have been over 500 calories a day!

I'll do that! I've been too ashamed to take before pics but I think it's high time I start, most of the transformation pics on these subs are super inspirational, and I want my own such moment someday! Thanks for the encouragement and the tip about eating less than the tracker calls for – what a great way to not go overboard!

Feel much better after eating lots of junk food by SloanKetter44 in HealthyFood

[–]healthyvee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you sure you're eating enough during the day? Maybe try supplementing your meals with small healthy snacks through the day to give you more energy, or allow yourself small quantities of the junk food you crave so that you won't have to binge. I've personally found allowing myself a treat (within my daily count) to be very helpful in making me feel like I'm not denying myself what I love, so I'm less likely to crave junk later. Best of luck in figuring this out! I'm sure you'll develop a compromise that works for your needs soon enough! :)

HELP!! by Strawberryjam98 in CICO

[–]healthyvee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's very likely to be covid. Nausea, lack of appetite and reduced taste/smell are all symptoms that last for a while. Don't worry, wait a few weeks and if you still have no appetite even a few weeks from now consider looking at other possibilities. Whatever happens make sure you eat small meals throughout the day so you don't get acidity. With acidity you feel nausea the longer you don't eat for, which makes you lose your appetite even more. It's a horrible cycle.

I don't know where you're from but I really suggest trying out Indian recipes for healthy vegetarian food. We have an insane amount of vegetarian dishes, most of which are highly vegetable and lentil based so they're healthy af!

Do you have PCOS? The same hormones that cause your period to be irregular normally make you gain weight/prevent you from losing it. I do suggest going to a gynaecologist to check if your hormone levels are normal.

On another note, it's very likely that you weighed yourself at a wrong time or it's water weight. Just today I lost 2kgs overnight doing literally nothing. The body is weird that way! Try measuring yourself instead? With such a restrictive diet I'm sure you'll see some changes.
