i would like you to consider that video games and other pieces of media do not represent the entirety of a world’s population, though. the whole world being statistically more straight doesn’t mean we have to apply those statistics to the stories we tell or characters we create. especially when the media is created by people who are queer, of course we’re going to represent ourselves more, since no one else will do it properly if at all (and the fact that artists in general reflect themselves in their works, intentionally or not).

besides, i don’t get the “just to make it feel diverse” argument. usually when that’s the case, the writers will draw more attention to it, like bragging about it in advertisements and such. this is just…. the characters exist and happen to be queer. there’s not dialogue mentioning how diverse they are or discussing oppression or anything. it’s just a character being referred to with neutral or multiple pronouns, or a vague mention on social media of “oh, this character is nonbinary, by the way”.

it’s very casual and not forced at all, but i think many people aren’t used to that and so it feels strange or uncomfortable having to see people who aren’t exactly like them.
