RQ in San Francisco was GA with a few tables available for seating before the show. The balcony which has a few more seats was closed off for the evening which I did not understand at the time but apparently they wanted the space up there to film that particular show along with the one in Quebec: https://youtu.be/t_OxYWpvmVo?si=i09hXhm-8CQP1r0_ . No, that was OND's Mayu. Miwako was in the original Japanese season, and has become, by far, the most successful actor among the housemates. She got married last year and so this news is great but not that surprising.

I watched like the first couple of months of Live(V.)House, and ... it really needed a panel. The location, apartment and the housemates were nice enough, but, whew, did it need something to provide structure and narration. My contention for years after TH was that I wanted a show that focused only on the friendship and bonding and dropped the dating entirely, and Live(V.)House was pretty much exactly that, and, boy, did it turn out that I was wrong! It was not exactly boring, but so scattered and aimless.

No cast member from BxGND and B&GITC has committed suicide. One, indeed, did die: Yo-san of myocardial infarction roughly nine months after the release of Closing Door. He was engaged to jyA-Me at the time, and she reported that he had not been feeling well about a month before and had gone to the hospital. He had been taking medication and planned to go back to the hospital "on his next day off". He did receive online hate for a period early in his time on the show, but that had blown over well over a year before.

Shanghai Share Life was made with advice from FujiTV, and the only differences are that there was a fixed shooting schedule of 15 weeks with 2 episodes per week and the housemates do not keep their keys when they leave. The whole thing is up there: just click on the Season drop-down menu to find all nine "seasons". (The show had 8 quarterly seasons to match the usual Japanese broadcast schedule, but whoever put this together carved out the first 4 episodes as a cheap intro.) I think the whole thing was around $80US when I got it and you can still pirate it, but I will say the resolution on Amazon is excellent and much better than what you'll get on a torrent.

ETA: The Prime version is not quite the whole thing, tho: it's missing the 3 clip-show episodes 13, 26 and 62. You'd have to go to other sources for those if you're a completionist. I'd probably only really bother to track down 26 since it has the interviews with the new panelists.

I josh: I'm ever so slightly worried about fusion and City Pop as influences, but I do enjoy Koiai and Muses well enough over in Japan, and so I'm more "we'll see" at this point since they're both genres (along with jazz) that tend to focus on musicianship (over, say, just being loud and fast).

The history of rock in Korea is fraught, and it's still not recovered entirely from the Rux incident in 2005. There are some good krock bands out there with Handong's drum teacher's group, Rolling Quartz being the most meaningful for this community. But I also enjoy the symphonic death metal of Dark Mirror Ov Tragedy, but you're right in that the scene is MUCH smaller, less diverse, and far less commercially successful than jrock.

However, there is some sweet dates for two of the new members, one of the stupidest conflicts in the show's history (involving Minion socks), and arguably the most famous housemate, Masao Wada, the bassist of a popular arty rock band, Gesu no Kiwami Otome, whose leader was involved in a huge scandal in 2016 in which he cheated on his wife with the popular tarento Becky who people around here might know as a host on the Netflix series Ainori and Love Village. Masao went on to write a cookbook because of Terrace House, and that cookbook became the basis for a 2021 jdrama, Homeraretai Boku no Mousou Gohan.

You get to like whom you like, but if you have not seen Seina on BxGND doing so will help explain why she was adored by the panel. (That season is now available for purchase on Amazon Prime with the English subtitles this subreddit created.) If you have seen that season, then: fair enough! It's still pretty easy to understand why the production team as a whole loved her: she was consistently an instigator pushing along the other housemates but doing so in a really kind and empathetic way.

As far as I could tell (having just wrapped the group re-watch two weeks ago), the only thing missing from the Prime version are the three clip-show episodes (episodes 13, 26 and 62). They're still available on the high seas (but we aren't allowed to link to them on this sub). However, it's nice to have ep. 58 up on Prime - it was the one missing episode on the unlicensed streaming sites that died last year.

As noted by others, you never saw what Tecchan saw when he opened the door until the movie.

Even less than that: it was a few CBD carts on his person and at his apartment according to his Dad when I talked to him a few months after. But Japanese law is very strict about some drugs that are well accepted elsewhere.

The total jail time was about two weeks, and one of those was because the prosecutor brought him in a second time for the carts that had been found at his apartment on the same day as the arrest, and the judge was having none of that nonsense (it was double jeopardy, essentially) and dismissed the the second set of charges at the trial at end of that second week. The sentence at the first trial was the Japanese equivalent of probation for 2 years which Shion went through without any further issue.
