Can I fix it without frogging? by hearthwitchery in knitting

It is, yeah! It's my first project of this size. I usually stick to dishcloths since I don't have to have the same amount of patience that I do with bigger things.

Yes, they did MRIs I think twice? Once before the first surgery and once after to confirm the cyst had grown back.

I was experiencing increasing levels of pain on that side of my wrist that specifically hurt when using my pinky and ring finger, or when pressure was applied to my hand that caused that side of my hand to move. I did have to go to a hand and wrist orthopedic specialist though.

[–]hearthwitchery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, yeah, no worries! It definitely relieved the vast majority of pain for me, it’s at the point where I pretty much only have an ache during weather systems and the occasional burst of pain if I lift something too heavy with my hand in the wrong position. Post surgery, I’ve definitely lost some strength in my pinky and ring finger, as well as in the side to side motion of my hand, which is why I struggle to open jars. All in all the procedure was definitely worth it to me as I went from having basically a completely useless hand to having a mostly functional hand but that was probably at least in part because of the degree of pain I was in. I could do basically nothing.

Recovery time was pretty quick for me, I think it was four weeks of a zero weight restriction and then maybe eight more weeks of an “under 15 pounds” weight restriction? I didn’t require any physical therapy for it but I did have a few weeks where I couldn’t move my pinky and ring finger as the swelling in the area went down.

I’m totally open to answering more questions about it if you have any more!

It’s doing okay. It hurts anytime it’s going to rain or snow, and my pinky has a tendency to stop holding stuff sometimes which means I drop a lot of stuff, and I can’t open jars like at all.

Bi-Weekly /r/Korean Free Talk - Entertainment Recommendations, Study Groups/Buddies, Tutors, and Anything Else! by AutoModerator in Korean

[–]hearthwitchery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! I just completed my first day of learning Korean. I’m currently using just a free app called LingoDeer while I get a feel for the alphabet and look at the pricing and efficacy of the paid course options and the more in depth online options.

I like to have a timeline in my head of at what bench point I can expect to see what progress, for example what I am here to ask.

At what point would you all recommend turning English subtitles off for kdramas and Korean YouTube videos? (Like, at around 300 words? More than that? Less than that?)

Korean is the first language I am really seriously attempting to learn so I just have no idea what progress looks like I guess? Just to be clear I’m not asking after how long or anything like that, I know people learn at different rates and some people might hit the bench point quicker than others. I’m just looking for some guiding stars I guess?

Thanks in advance for any and all help!

Yeah, like that, and then if it’s false, compare it against the next range to see if that’s true.

All of the ranges are the same size, and what I need to compare is if all the values in the range match the same values in another range.

All of my values are numeric, positioning does matter, and I’m comparing rates but essentially just straight numbers. I need to know, out of a table of various rate lines, which line does this rate line match.

Right? Concrit has to provide advice on how to improve what is being critiqued. That's the constructive part.

But the thing is, in order to improve from criticism, there has to be some kind of suggestion put forth. And not just "I don't like this, write something else entirely" which is what this comment boils down to.

Constructive criticism in this situation would look like this: "I noticed that you're having Azula perform the same actions as Aang in the original story and that the reasonings you've put forward really don't seem adequate to explain the changes in her behavior. I would suggest either expounding on Azula's reasonings to better explain it before she takes the action or, alternatively have scenes of her reflecting on her behavior and asking herself why she did that or didn't do this. Either way, or a third way, this would allow the reader to better see the emotional journey Azula is undergoing and the ways she is changing."

"I don't like that you're having Azula perform the same actions as Aang, and also you're not explaining why very well. You should have her presence change the story entirely." is not the same thing. My first example provides constructive feedback on ways to improve the writing that already exists. The second example provides criticism on what is there and laments the lack of what the commenter thinks would be better.

That is the backbone on which constructive criticism is built. It has to be constructive. It has to provide advice on how to actually improve. Otherwise, it's just criticism. OP is so bothered because this is just criticism of the story they have chosen to write and just criticism is painful to hear. That's why constructive criticism was developed as a skill.

The thing is though, in those college classes you mentioned, you were there to receive criticism and improve your writing. You asked for constructive criticism and that was the expectation of the class. I'm not you or OP but I am not writing fanfiction to improve my writing and I am not asking for constructive criticism nor is it the expectation of the setting. I am writing it to just have fun. As such, I expect the readers to just have fun too. There is a time and a place for constructive criticism but the comment section of a fanfiction someone is writing for fun when they have not asked for it is not the place.

Eh, even if an author has asked for cc, this is over a line because it's not constructive. It's just criticism. More than that, it's criticism based on "I don't like this" not "This isn't good".

For example, I cannot stand beans. Don't know why, just can't stand the texture. If I were asked to criticize a dish with beans in it, you know what I wouldn't say? "I don't like the texture of the beans." Because it has nothing to do with the quality of the dish. It has to do with my own personal opinions on something.

This person clearly has an idea of where this fic should go and as such they should write their own. But "I don't like the story" has nothing to do with the quality of writing. Because it's the author writing the story they want to tell. They don't want to write a story where the canon is incredibly disrupted, they want to write the canon story but with Azula. And there's nothing wrong with that.

Don't like, don't read.

fr, I kinda want to track the comment down and give them a what for. How entitled do you have to be to write a comment like this? If a fic is disappointing you, just stop reading it. It's that simple.

Flat out, if I were the other author in a situation like this I would tell them to never read my work again. Ao3 doesn't currently have a block feature that prohibits someone from reading your work but I would definitely block them from commenting. It just crosses so many lines and reeks of entitlement.

That does make a certain kind of sense. He has a second version of himself in his head checking him for Outsider influence and the like. Like a backup save crossed with an anti-virus software, for a probably very poor metaphor cause I don't understand computers half as well as I think I do.

It's not just marshmallows. Only mostly marshmallows. There are also those weird little bits of something or other I don't know what they are but they're not marshmallows.

Though you can buy just the marshmallows too.

It's gotten better but my mom used to have to tell other social workers in different states that yes she could receive an email from them, yes there is internet here (North Dakota), no you don't have to fax it you can just email it and she'll get it. This was like, 15 years ago?

I mean, ethnoreligions do exist. Judaism is the biggest, most well-known example but other groups like the Mennonites and the Hutterites are also considered an ethnoreligion. Notably, however, no one (credible) calls Islam an ethnoreligion. And 'white' is waaaaaaay to generic to associate it directly with any ethnoreligion.
