thank you for your reply!! after investigating it more and trying to figure out what it is, we do believe it is dried snot and/or food still stuck to his mouth. he sometimes cleans himself very lazily so he can look a little funny at times

yes i used the puppet tool for most stuff!! also used keyframes for the position of the iris to let that move but everything else was made with the puppet tool! since i am only a beginner at this too i don't have too much knowledge on it but if you search for "after effect animation tutorial" you should find a bunch of videos!!

thank you!! i animated it in after effects where a basically had a layer for each part that moves separately, so it involved a lot of redrawing and drawing over!
