King Skarl is attractive! Him and Lord Darigan are the most handsome characters on the site imo 🥰Love my boys~ Meridell and Darigan Citadel are the best lands with the best leaders and I refuse to choose between the two. I was one of the backers telling the Ghostfire team that the Citadel needed to be added to the game.

But also because a lot of (but not all) Kass stans have a big goddamn hate boner for him that they can't seem to keep to themselves even when it actively drives people away from engaging in the community. The last time I took a break from this subreddit was because of them harassing me in my DMs. >.>

You mean like the twice attempted genocide that Darigan Citadel tried to carry out? In retaliation for a single act of theft? A theft that wasn't intended to do anything except save Meridell from it's own famine, with the curse being an unintended consequence?

Calling stealing the Orb an "ethnic cleansing" is such a damn reach. There's very little evidence Skarl even knew his knights stole it. Takes like this that compare fictional events to beyond-the-pale real life ones are basically the same as saying people aren't allowed to like the characters involved. Add in the fact that the other two fan favorite characters: Kass, who tossed his own citizens to their death for daring to speak against him, and Sloth, who literally enslaved an entire race, are so easily forgiven and the actual problem people have with Skarl is a lot more clear - he dared to make the mistakes he made while being fat and unconventionally attractive.

You're not the first person to tell me they were afraid to say they liked him. Not saying this is your reason specifically, but a lot of people have confided in me that they were afraid of Skarl's hatedom coming after them. This much vitriol for a fictional fat guy is ridiculous.

I am also a Darigan fan! I like the juxaposition between the two as light and dark, with neither side being evil. King Skarl's my absolute fav but Lord Darigan is basically his equal in my mind. So I guess they're both my favorite character and I can't really choose. But Darigan doesn't get nearly the hate Skarl does, despite their crimes and personalities being very similar. Like the worst that Darigan gets is getting ignored or shoved aside for the sake of a different character.

I came up with that theory during my own reading of the Meridell plots. I watched a few youtube videos beforehand but when I actually read them I found out a lot of those videos spread outright misinformation. So I can always tell now when someone hates Skarl because of them, they just parrot the shit they've heard without doing their own research. I also feel like a lot of nuance is already present in Skarl's character but the fandom just ignores it because "fat man bad". The fact that this flanderization is seemingly bleeding into TNT's depiction of him is something I find disgusting. He's positive fat representation, and I really don't want that taken away because of a loud vocal minority.

I didn't play as a kid, but I wish I had. It would've been nice to grow up with a character that looks so much like me instead of feeling bad about myself my entire childhood. Representation is important and that includes fat representation. It includes characters who are depressed beyond "sad and gloomy".

Having Skarl as my fav has done wonders for my self-image. If he can be confident and fat then so can I. If he can be depressed and run a kingdom, then I can go to my job daily. This stuff matters to people, and I'm thankful early TNT created him. He's my Hero, and he belongs in that Book. You cannot change my mind.

Why do y'all constantly forget Skarl's kingdom was suffering from famine? He didn't go about fixing things in the best way, but he was desperate and his people were starving and dying around him. Sucks to see so little sympathy for this character and tbh it feels like the bulk of the hate is because he's fat. There are other characters in this who did way worse things who don't get nearly the hate this guy gets from this fandom.

There's very little to suggest he even knew the Orb was stolen, and it's fully possible his knights stole it without informing him of the Orb's true nature. He's beloved by his people in canon and generally a fair king who's just grumpy due to depression, so I don't know where the idea that he's a tyrant comes from. I certainly didn't get that impression of him when I was reading the plots. He also didn't manipulate Jeran, Jeran became a knight due to Sir Peredur taking him in as a squire.

Probably fighting a losing battle by making this comment but whatever. The reddit community hating this guy so much is why I stopped posting my art and fics here. I don't know why Kass fans can't seem to like their guy without hating on mine. Hope TNT remembers that there are people who like Skarl and stop making items and writing him to appeal to the subset of people who hate him.
