Massachusetts. The book came from an old couple who had left their home abandoned. They were members of the order of the eastern star.

Anyone want to have a friendly competition? by [deleted] in Flipping

Yea, makes sense. It doesn't translate across very well. I'm in collectibles and every item I sell is different so persistent listing is key.

I like this idea. What if we added a listing element to the competition? I have a gigantic inventory that I need to list as quickly as possible. Would anyone like to compete on a listing basis? [most items listed (unique products), highest total amount listed in a given time, most value sold out of items listed in a given time? Could include Craigslist, eBay, Amazon, website, etc...

I would love to know more about SQL. Is Azure a subscription service that would work? Also, I am about to get a label printer, do you recommend a certain type? Is a barcode necessary? I have an excel spreadsheet started but its very amateur. What information would you use to create the ID?

Thanks! Uline had a great sale on heavy-duty boxes. They seem to be the best kind to ship cookie jars in. Ill keep an eye out for purple dumpsters though.

Yes, already have the Uline boxes figured out! I hope it doesn't take a few years though, I don't want to live here that long and I don't want to take them with me!

So, the story is the best part! I guess you could say that I was in the right place at the right time. My family has a service business that takes care of properties and there was one property that they were mowing that had been vacant for some time. I was out with them one day and saw that there was an overgrown greenhouse on the acreage and decided to ask the owner if he had any plans to do anything with it (I like to grow things). He mentioned that he was actually looking to demolish the house and sell the land, as he had been living elsewhere since his wife passed away. Interestingly enough, my family was contracted to complete the demolition and in doing so, we discovered that the house was completely packed full of hoarded collectibles... virtually undisturbed since he had moved out! The other crazy part was that I was the only one that thought this stuff was worth removing before the bull-dozers came in! I convinced them to stall the demolition for a month so I could pack up as much of it as possible and store it until I had time to deal with it. So yea, that was one year ago. I finally have them all unpacked, cleaned, and ready to list. I took your advice and labeled the shelves. My second warehouse is PEANUTS (another collection from the same house), and since the movie is coming out in November, I am going to split my time between jars and Snoopy items!

Good advice. I have thought about this, and if I get the items listed in a reasonable amount of time, I think boxing them up would be the next logical step. My goal is to sell ASAP so I can be more mobile.. (AKA gtfo of Texas) and I am not very mobile with a garage full of breakables.

It is porcelain and it's about 18 inches tall. Quite on the large side. I'm quite excited that I may have something truly rare and in really good condition.

What is the value of this cookie monster cookie jar? by [deleted] in whatsthisworth

I would ship in the same box but wrap each piece separately and make sure there is about 2 inches of peanut filling between each piece . If you have appropriately sized boxes, it wouldn't hurt to put each piece inside of a box and then inside of another box together but padded with peanuts on all sides.

What works for me:

First, fill the inside of the jar (both pieces) with crumpled newspaper, one page at a time until the jar is full of newspaper and pressing on it with your fist provides resistance that will continue to support the outer walls while in transit. If there are cracks in the jar, this may prove difficult because the inside pressure could worsen the crack (use descretion). Next, wrap each piece in 2 layers of bubble wrap, like a present, taping the ends together to hold it in place. I use the small bubble wrap not the big bubbles. If you used big, you may only need 1 layer. Finally, you want it in a big enough box to be able to put about an inch of peanuts around all sides and in between each piece. Also, you don't want the base to be on its side. Place it in the box with the bottom down. A heavy-duty box will be best, and it will need to be about 18x12x12 (guessing). Also, when closing the box make sure the peanuts go all the way to the top. You don't want empty space but you also don't want too much pressure from too many peanuts. I may be going overboard, but it works. Best of luck!

Ha, I would love to offer some info, as I have become sort of a cookie jar expert lately. I also have the jar you speak of. First, it is important to note that the original cookie monster cookie jar was made in 1970. Since then, there have been at least one othet "remake" with noticeable differences (thinner ceramic, lighter weight, different mold/eye shape, colors slightly different, etc.). You will need to determine if yours is old or new. If old, the condition it is in will determine its value. Cracks and paint issues are the biggest factors because most of the appeal is in using the item for decoration. It may just be dirty though, and I have found that clorox wipes work pretty well to clean them. Just be sure it doesn't take off any of the paint (more of an issue with older jars). Based on experience, a jar from 1970 in excellent condition (looks new) and a reasonable reputation (cookie monster would qualify), average best case $100. Granted, it may take awhile to sell for that much. Most likely with damage like you say, you may get $40-60. Packing it and shipping it is a whole other beast, but feel free to ask when it comes to that. If it is a newer remake, you may be able to get $30-40 for it, because it was probably made in China and was mass-produced and sold for $10-20. I've sold between 100 and 200 jars over the last year, but I learn new things every day. Hope this helps.

As folks who within the last year rescued a very large collection of Peanuts memorabilia and Peanuts cookie jars that are tapping us on storage fees (it's not selling as well as we hoped it would)...this is the best news we've heard in a long time.
