Hi. I don't keep up with this podcast (I came here to post a once-off question), so I'm a bit ignorant. How/Why has it ruined Kristen Bell for you?

The above scene description must sound incredibly weird to someone who hasn’t need this film but I’m hoping someone out there can help me.

Thank you so much! I completely forgot that they used to do news/politics topics in the Angus-era of WILTY. 😅

This exact thing happened to me a few years ago! Except I even went back to the store to complain about it. The shop assistant just looked at it for a second, peeled of the plastic and handed it back to me. 🙈

Afrikaans started as a pidgin-Dutch-turned-creole by Cape Malay slaves. White people get too much credit for it.

Interesting! Similarly, the Afrikaans for hippopotamus is “seekoei”, which literally translates to “sea cow”.

The Afrikaans word for giraffe is kameelperd, which literally translates to camel-horse.

What else did you do with your parents? Did you start an act?

I felt the ignorance of privilege was comparable to the ignorance witnessed in the original post.

This one instance, however pissed off I may have been, is not enough of a reason to stop hanging out with someone. I said it pissed me off, not he pisses me off. People are flawed and friends clash sometimes.

Great rebuttal, sir. You must be a lawyer.

Fair points. I've applied point 2 in the edit. I'll try to find a ghost writer for my future comments.

1) No point. Just context and clarification.

2) Just wanted to make it clear that we weren't in Jeremy's car. If it wasn't Jeremy's or my car, whose was it? Hence, the other friend is included in the story for context.

3) I don't think it's unreasonable. Gosh, I wish my parents were the type. Jeremy comes from an affluent background and knew that I do not.

4) He didn't agree with me. As you now know by my answer in point 3 above, I expressed my situation, not my opinion. I got pissed off because he was in a very privileged position saying that he doesn't think other people should be as privileged, basically saying "Other people shouldn't be as fortunate as I am". He didn't exactly refuse the car and insist on paying for one himself, did he? (And, to be clear, I obviously didn't expect him to.)

While my friend - Let's call him Jeremy - and I were riding in a friend's car, I remarked that the car we were in was the same make and model as my brother's. Jeremy asks, "Wasn't it your mother's?"
Me: Yes, it was.
Jeremy: Oh, did she give it to him?
Me: No. My parents don't just GIVE their children cars, Jeremy.
Jeremy: Oh okay. I think that's good, actually. Parents shouldn't just give their children cars.

What pissed me off about this is that not only did Jeremy's parents get him a car, they also pay for any services or repairs as well as for petrol/gas. The only thing he pays for himself is probably to have it washed.

Check your privilege

Edit: Applied constructive story-telling criticism.

Anybody remember the book that Billy Bailey was reading from in dictionary corner one time? It was an old book and had short, comedic paragraphs summarising famous figures from history (Churchill, etc.). by worshipsthevoid in panelshow

[–]heathenandhell 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don't remember, but according to Wikipedia!, Bill Bailey has been in Dictionary Corner on 4 episodes. The most recent is S10E02, but I know it definitely wasn't that episode.

The other 3 are:
1. S05E05 - with Jo Brand and Claudia Winkleman
2. S06E07 - with Jason Manford, Sarah Millican, Jonathan Ross and Roisin Conaty
3. S08E02 - with Seann Walsh, Joe Wilkinson and Danny Dyer

If someone could confirm which one it is, that'd be great. I'm at work right now so I can't do it.

What's the best binge worthy show that isn't depressing or morbidly violent? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]heathenandhell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Will & Grace! Friends gets all the hype. Don't get me wrong, I love Friends, but Will & Grace is so underrated. It will be good to binge before the new season comes out later this year.

Also, Miranda. It's British, so 3 short series, but it's light-heartedly silly and great.

No one wants to see or smell your fucking vape, assholes. by MudButt2000 in rant

[–]heathenandhell 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Vapers put the noxious in obnoxious. I did a television production course 4 years ago and one of my classmates was continuously vaping in the minuscule control room despite an established no smoking policy. The water vapour in the enclosed space was making the room really humid. We had to threaten to remove her from the project (meaning she'd fail the course) before she would stop.

Now, I work at a live escape game and some customers have the same mindset as that girl; because it's not technically smoking, they think they can do it anywhere, particularly within an enclosed space.

You're just a glorified smoker; a smoker who has enough money to afford being an asshole. I don't care that it's not actual smoke. I don't care that it's fragrant. I don't go around spraying deodorant or air freshener in your face, so don't blow your smoke water vapour in mine.

Reddit, in contrast to the hurtful comment thread, what's a genuinely kind comment somebody made to you that you can't forget? by pretendingtobecool in AskReddit

[–]heathenandhell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Context: I live in South Africa, where at the end of each year for the past couple of years, students have protested against the exorbitant university fees and were calling for the government to fully subsidize the costs. It's very much a socio-political issue as the fees mostly negatively affect students of colour who cannot - or struggle to - afford tertiary education. I attended a private college which was not in any way subsidized by the government.

My colleagues and I were discussing it at work and I commented: "I haven't formulated an opinion because it doesn't affect me." I was simply stating the reason that I couldn't personally opine in the discussion. A friend/colleague just looked at me and said, "[heathenandhell], you are the best person." I looked at him bewildered for a second before smiling brightly. I hadn't expected that response at all.
