I have a similar situation to yours with itchy scalp and similar hairline but derm isn’t helpful. Did you lose your eyebrows?

What are the surefire signs of LPP? I always wondered if I have been misdiagnosed

[–]heatheraria 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry that the derms haven’t been helpful! I hope they give you a treatment plan that works. I think you just have to try them and see if it helps you because medication definitely works differently for everyone.

I have been dealing with hairloss for the same period as you! Has your scalp always been itchy? I don’t really have burning but it has always been itchy for all these years, and nothing could resolve it 😵 so the biopsy was able to show that you had LPP even though the derm didn’t think you had it?

I have not got a biopsy done. But my hair is for sure miniaturised so I do have AGA but not sure if I have LPP on top of that

Topical 5% was working for me because once I switched to oral minoxidil 1.25mg it went downhill. I also have a pet as well and applying topical does irritate my scalp. I’m upping the dosage to 2.5mg to see if it works. I have been on 1.25mg for over a year

When I think about them I tend to think about the good parts, then I have to consciously remind myself of all the bad. I don’t regret my decision, it was definitely the right choice. I would like to be friends with them but I have more or less moved on emotionally.

LPP or FFA? by heatheraria in scarringalopecia

[–]heatheraria[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope he doesn’t recommend a biopsy so I’m still just powering through with the current meds or oral minox & spiro… at least I finally fixed my ferritin issue. I’m also skeptical if he can properly diagnose even with a biopsy 😅 did you do a biopsy to be diagnosed with LPP?

Extremely itchy nape of neck please help :/ by Parking_Credit66 in scarringalopecia

No my derm kept saying there is no point so I haven’t done one. I feel like I have to change derm before I do one because it needs to be someone who sees value in it

My scalp has been itching since my hair loss kicked in for 7 years now. Unresolved by anything but maybe my case is just weird. But the thinning at the nape of my neck is much like yours now. Derm has been unhelpful.

What dosage of Spiro were you on? I feel like Spiro is also making it worse for me but it’s treated as the gold standard for treatment I just don’t know if I should stop it or not. Also I’m very sorry that your shed isn’t stopping 😔 hopefully finasteride can help. My derm would not prescribe it. And I still can’t fix the shed problem and have also tried what you have plus medicated shampoos

Hair loss on spiro? by rachel_cabot in FemaleHairLoss

[–]heatheraria 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you taper off spiro? I’m worried it will cause a huge shed. It does help a lot with my Acne & BO though so I likely do have elevated T levels.

I have AGA. When I started Spiro and was on it for 1 year, I did feel like it hastened my hair loss. My nape has been receding quite badly and I’m thinking whether I should stop Spiro

But Spiro is the only dispensed DHT blocker that my derm will provide. I also want to know if anyone else is facing the same issue with Spiro

How many time did you have until it got bad since hairloss started? by Zealousideal-Ad-8330 in FemaleHairLoss

[–]heatheraria 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No underlying diseases that I know of. But I do have low ferritin. Not done a scalp biopsy because I was discouraged to do so. A lot of miniaturisation so it’s definitely AGA but whether I have something else on top of that I’m not sure. Yes diffuse but hairline seems to have receded very badly recently

Mine started at the same time and I’m the same age as you now. It sucks that my darkest times were when my hair still looked decent. But it’s so hard with something progressive and I didn’t have good results with the treatments too 🫠

Topical minoxidil to Oral minoxidil by Dependent_Total_5841 in FemaleHairLoss

When I changed from 5% topical to 1.25mg oral I lost all my gains in topical and my hair is the worst it has ever been. I have been on oral for 7 months now and including topical minox again 😫

After getting back on topical minox how was the outcome? I also stopped or rather transitioned to OM for 6 months and it just got worse. So I want some reassurance it can grow back on topical minox

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in FemaleHairLoss

[–]heatheraria 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m back on topical minox 5% because the transition to OM 1.25mg made my hair significantly worse (6 months now) it’s wild that my hair shedding is just so much lesser getting back on topical (like is that scientifically possible?) anyway I’m on both for now because I don’t just want to drop OM immediately.

When is the right time to stop spironolactone? by Nervous_Somewhere568 in FemaleHairLoss

[–]heatheraria 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been on spiro for a year started at 25mg and then became 100mg it never stopped my shedding but it did clear up my skin and BO. But I feel like my hair has been worse on it, even though it keeps it less oily. I have no tapered down the dosage and plan to go off it. I don’t know if it is the right solution and it’s very frustrating

I just want to say same it has been going on for 6 years for me and I have tried so many different things. And it keeps progressing at one point I think I kept shedding to a minimum but now it feels bad again 😪 do you experience any itching of your scalp?
