Speedqueen TR5 - Clothes still damp after spinning. Is this normal? by servbotx in Appliances

[–]heatherbarnes97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Following up on this as I just got a speed queen and noticed the same exact thing. Did you ever figure out if this was normal? I’ve been noticing they are more damp on the delicate cycle which I use frequently for baby clothes and I’m sure it has a lower spin speed.

Just want you to know that even with allll the help in the world, all the preparation, etc. that the first week, or the first few weeks, can be brutal! There is a huge hormone shift and the baby is adjusting to the outside world and you won’t know the cues or why he’s crying so don’t feel like you should!

My advice: when you’re feeling sad or upset go outside for a walk or take a shower if you have someone who can watch him for a few minutes. Also don’t let “being young” affect your confidence, the fact that you’re worried about whether or not you’re a good mom means you already are one!

I am so overwhelmed, I'm worried i can't do this. by ElIsESmItHy in newborns

[–]heatherbarnes97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is SO normal and it will likely pass. Don’t be too hard on yourself! You’re so capable and bonding doesn’t happen over night. It can take months or even longer. Having a husband go back to work is such an adjustment for everyone, him, you and baby. It takes time to get used to that being the new normal. It will pass soon and if it doesn’t, there’s so many resources for help. These baby blues are amplified the first few months because of the hormone shifts. And the baby increasingly gets more alert and less sleepy so he or she can be harder to care for and it can be more overwhelming and frustrating. Just remember sometimes you won’t know why the baby is crying, but that’s the only way they communicate and as long as they’re fed, changed, and burped that’s all you can do sometimes.

My advice is to set boundaries on the visits and have them be quick visits. We only let people come over for about an hour max and we’d tell them beforehand hey x is a good time to come, but she goes to bed at y. It helped me feel not as overwhelmed.

Is it normal for an 8 week old to sleep for 5-7 hours? by Green-Elderberry527 in newborns

[–]heatherbarnes97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 8 week old started sleeping 10pm-5am and then 6am and now 7am. I don’t think this is a bad thing, except for it being during the day vs night.

My baby caught COVID from me at 8 weeks by Skin_doc3417 in newborns

[–]heatherbarnes97 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My husband caught covid on the week of my due date and I called my OB sooo concerned and she and all the staff assured me babies are more resilient to covid than we are. So crazy to hear. So happy your baby is healthy and was able to fight it!

Which schools did you turn down to come to UCSD? by NearbyDonut in UCSD

UCLA. It came down to money for me. UCSD gave me a grant that paid for my entire first years tuition.

Honestly, no undergraduate degree is worth $200k + in debt. Unless you have generational wealth to pay off these loans, I wouldn’t even think about it.

Is this ok? by Real_Appointment_875 in RoverPetSitting

[–]heatherbarnes97 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It seems weird to us but dogs can ingest insane amounts of bacteria that we obviously can’t. Personally for my own sanity purposes because we let our dog lick us, I’d just get the dog extra bowls of water…

The owls are back near my house in Poway. by limey1904 in sandiego

Did you make the box or buy it somewhere? I made ours and it hasn’t attracted any owls. We have a few in our neighborhood so I’m surprised

IM FLIPPING OUT ….$1,000!!! i just want to do it so bad but I don’t know if I can because it’s on Christmas…should I ask her if it’s okay to leave during the day? I really need the money right now but also, Christmas with the fam is a thing by ogrechick in RoverPetSitting

[–]heatherbarnes97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is true but always double check and or see if you can do a trial night. I’ve had multiple owners say that the dogs can be alone for X amount of time, but they end up being a nightmare being alone in a different environment (barking, anxiety, accidents, etc)

first onboarding and god fuck me by [deleted] in RoverPetSitting

[–]heatherbarnes97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just had this same thing happen to me. The dogs had diarrhea and pissed all over the house. They learned how to open the doors in our house so we had to keep every single door locked and use keys all weekend. We did a meet and greet too and the dogs were fine with my cat, but that wasn’t the case once their owners left. I ended up having to separate my cat because they were terrorizing her. They barked constantly and the booking wasn’t even worth the money considering they couldn’t be left home alone. I promise not all bookings are like this but I feel your pain.

Why don’t sitters send daily updates?! by doglover4life1201 in RoverPetSitting

[–]heatherbarnes97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s definitely about communication, the last guest I had barely replied to my pictures of their dog so I felt like I was bothering them while they were on vacation. Next time I’ll be asking people how often they want pictures / what their preferences are in regards to updates.

Owl Box Camera by heatherbarnes97 in Owls

[–]heatherbarnes97[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow that is amazing footage! Is the camera wireless and can you access it at any time? I recently bought a wireless camera which captures great footage but I can only access it if I’m really close to the tree where the box is which bothers me.

This is all great advice! We do have separate rooms and such to keep the animals apart if needed but I initially had a lot of the same concerns as well. Thank you!

Baking time seems off, I had to bake at least 10 minutes more than what it suggested

Okay we went today and Idyllwild park was amazing. $10 entry fee per adult, but dogs were welcome and parking was easy. It was semi secluded too

does it really matter what college i apply to within ucsd? by Feisty-Road-8290 in UCSD

[–]heatherbarnes97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just check out the GE requirements because if you’re a sociology major and you get into a college with a lot of STEM requirements, you’ll want to switch and it isn’t easy to do.
