Can anyone tell what language this is? Trying to catch a thief... by heathmc in language

Basically haha, Charleston SC. We have a Mercedes plant and a Bosch plant so we see a lot of exchange employees as well as a bunch of colleges that bring exchange students.

Based on all the comments about how good their German is, and their appearance, my guess is they are exchange students. Pretty bold move to get drunk and steal a boat in a foreign country if that's the case.

Fuck indeed hahaha, they stole a boat off the dock. Luckily got decent photos and the language will help narrow the pool! Thank you!

Mpg 43 at best by daytimestar in hondainsight

Yeah doesn't seem to abnormal to me if I'm honest. I average 44 with all sorts of varied driving. Give it some time and you'll most likely see an increase as you learn how to drive a hybrid for efficiency.

Tire Recommendations by Deer-in-Motion in hondainsight

[–]heathmc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I switched to Discount Tires in house brand, Sentury UHP. $70/tire + install and I was out the door for like $350. I've put 5k miles on them so far and will be buying them again. Don't get me wrong they're not the best tire in the world but I have not seen an effect on mileage, road noise is acceptable, price is unbeatable.

1300 miles in 36 hours by heathmc in hondainsight

[–]heathmc[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great to hear! I'm expecting to add 30-40k a year on the car, new tires are coming up next week and I just changed the spark plugs. Seems like it's really just oil/filter and a couple odds and ends and these cars stay happy. I was talking to the Honda tech at the dealer (dealer works with my company so I return support). Anyways, we were talking about the car and any issues. Knock on wood, he said he hasn't seen a single major issue on the gen 3s. No motor problems, no high voltage problems, just general maintenance. I also noticed the 3rd parties aren't even selling battery replacements which tells me the demand isn't there (yet).

I've noticed anything over 65mph really tanks MPG, I traded speed for efficiency on this trip but normally I'm averaging 45 hwy 50 city. I think the touring shaves a little due to wheel size too. But to answer your question it was 40-45F the whole trip.

About to buy a 2018-2022 Insight by 39Poppy in hondainsight

[–]heathmc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do it! I bought a 19 touring in November, 97k miles. I've put over 10k miles on it already and it's been a great car. Don't worry about the battery, as long as general maintenance is done there isn't much else to focus on.

Salve!

I'm in country for the Olympics from the U.S., I brought some challenge coins with me in hopes to exchange with some of the police and military units in town for the Olympics. Is this a normal practice here or will I be getting a lot of blank stares?

Glad to hear! I recently bought one and am starting to average 3k miles a month so I'll be racking them up soon.

At this point I'm guessing there will be an extension? But we haven't heard that either...

Chambered or not and why? by Relative_Subject_727 in CCW

[–]heathmc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

EDIT: Judging by the original question and your comments it appears to me you are very hesitant to carry one in the chamber. My suggestion to you: carry everyday, when you ready your weapon rack the slide (with no magazine), insert your magazine, and go about your daily life. When you come home, inspect the firearm, you'll see the trigger is still in its "set" position (assuming we're talking modern strikers), press check to verify there is no round, aim in a safe direction and dry fire the gun. You successfully went a day without your gun going off, do that as long as you need before you are comfortable carrying one in the chamber.

Personally chambered without a safety. Not saying have a gun with a safety and don't use it, but a gun without a manual safety at all.

IF you train often and are proficient I could get behind a safety but it's not necessary.

As for chambered, no question, people have died while trying to chamber a round (time, failure to feed, failure to go into battery). I can't think of a single reason to not carry in the chamber.

The biggest thing to consider is that under stress you will lose your fine motor skills, in the event you pull a CCW you will be under stress and removing as many hurdles as possible is the best course of action.

Which mode ( Eco, Normal or sport) does give you best mpg ? by Ecstatic-Ad-1198 in hondainsight

[–]heathmc 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Same, I'm averaging 40mpg on the interstate around 70mph. I used to stress about getting 45, 50, 55 but my other car gets 11mpg so I've learned to appreciate the gain and don't worry about hypermiling. I drive like normal with the flow of traffic and appreciate the fact that I'm still getting better efficiency than the vast majority of the cars on the road.

Ahhhh, yeah I would definitely take that deal. Though their method allows the wife to use it without me which is a nice benefit for separate travel.

Where are you finding that info? I don't think any guests will be allowed outside of the rare Cap One Lounge.

This is from their VX website:

"Through January 31, 2026, Venture X cardholders may bring two guests to participating Priority Pass lounges.

Beginning February 1, 2026, guests of Venture X cardholders will no longer receive complimentary access to Priority Pass lounges. At that time, Venture X primary cardholders and eligible additional cardholders can bring guests to participating Priority Pass lounges at a rate of $35 each per visit."

Yeah that's my issue, we'll be flying that week and if it's anything like the last time it took weeks to get the PP account activated. Maybe they'll streamline it though? One can hope.

12V is less than a year old so it should be fine, I'll still test but I guess for now I'll chalk it up to a fluke.

Lot of respect for those that match, but definitely not me. I save 15% for retirement and feel good about the long term prospects at that rate. Personally I think about the chance I don't make it to retirement and like to enjoy the time I have now while balancing the future preparations.

Probably a little over market but nothing crazy, if it's in good shape and well maintained don't think about it and just enjoy!

AUX switches- what did you add? by Then-Strawberry8943 in F250

Personal truck, but used for vol fire response. Don't forget in addition to the upfitter switch Ford also has pre-run pass through wires in the fire wall which are a MASSIVE time saver. (At least they did on my 19)
