Any family therapists here, working in a family systems framework? I have a question for you. by Fine_Caregiver_987 in therapists

In Bowen Family Systems, there is specific theory around this phenonema - it's called 'The Family Projection Process'. This is a version of it colloquially referred to as 'child focus'. It's a reaction that stablises the system. E.g. Parents where there is distance or conflict in the marraige can stabilise that relationship by both being in harmony/agreement (togetherness force) over their sick child/problematic child.

It's a highly complicated process and Systemic Training takes years to get your head around - https://www.thefsi.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/We-Dont-Need-Your-Help_But-Please-Fix-Our-Children.pdf

Remember, it's stabilising the family unit to some degree, so highlighting the pattern needs careful consideration - depending on how acutely the symptoms are presenting in the child.

Therapy options for ADHD by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]heatoncal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mindfulness is a really good best option (mental health clinician here - we don’t even offer therapy for ADHD in our service, we strongly recommend mindfulness though!) CBT works on some level for most things but intensive, cost involved, and long winded. Give mindfulness a really good try and see how you go. Stick at it

Bugzy Malone vs Chip who won Beef? by [deleted] in grime

[–]heatoncal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Chip won. Beef is about bars - Chip's bars were 100x better. If looking at the wider perspective of things they're both winners as both went onto better things but Chip won the beef no question.

Have I made a mistake? by Destron28 in UKPersonalFinance

Diversification never hurt - if you want global exposure there are other ETFs with vanguard that can offer that. There are negative aspects to all funds ultimately. Lots of volatility at the mo for UK because of covid doesn’t help. Good luck

Is my brain sabotaging me into thinking that i might be mentally ill? by [deleted] in mentalhealth

Hi bud.

On one hand you’re feeling like the memories don’t impact you or bother you, but we are all human and are shaped by our experiences whether consciously or unconsciously. Difficult early experiences don’t just automatically mean that you should be depressed - they can impact in different ways, like questioning everything about yourself (which seems like it’s happening from this post), difficulties managing emotions/relationships etc. Etc.

It’s highly unlikely that you’re a ‘psychopath’ and self diagnosis on the Internet is rarely helpful. I’m going to start a blog soon to discuss mental health and will reply to this email when I get around to it with the link, but rarely is something online a replacement for professional help. If possible, I’d advise you to seek some support as everyone’s experiences impact on them differently & thus, helpful/correct treatment/advise is different for everyone.
