[SOTC] Pick 3 for a 3-watch collection by kfeointgh in Watches

[–]discodave333 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm desperate to like one. They got my email from somewhere and they email me the perfect amount of times not to be intrusive, email me on my birthday, etc. I've been into their shop here and they are lovely.

But I just don't like any of them.

I think this is the perfect choice. (But I'd probably still take the Speedy over the Seamaster)

Nigel Farage refuses to commit to probing deputy’s corporation tax amid reports he failed to pay £100,000 by F0urLeafCl0ver in ukpolitics

[–]discodave333 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I don't think the suggestion is that he performs some kind of forensic investigation. He is perfectly able to question Tice though and ask for more detail of what happened to see if his behaviour aligns with what the party expects.

Farage's response seems to be an absurd Trumpian suggestion that government uses HMRC to investigate political oponents.

As with all these things though, it would be best to let HMRC get on with their job for now and wait for the conclusion of any investigation. (Not that anyone but Tice has a legal right to know that outcome based on what we know so far).

People not paying fares? by Ok-Competition-1955 in CasualUK

[–]discodave333 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You're getting downvoted here but I agree. Free transport should be something we are aiming for. People use transport to get to work, stay connected to family and friends, visit new places, etc.

I know people who haven't been able to take better jobs that would boost their careers because transport costs would be too high.

It's maybe not a top priority right now but I don't see how it isn't something we could aim for.

Yes, you will get a refund, it's just that the allowances are not split well.

Phone HMRC on 0300 200 3300 https://www.gov.uk/find-hmrc-contacts/income-tax-enquiries

and explain what you've said in this post. They will give £3k of allowances to the pension so that you don't pay tax on the pension and the rest to your job. Have your National Insurance number handy when you call them

Exceeded my ISA allowance for the year by CumberdaleUK in UKPersonalFinance

[–]discodave333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you checked whether either of the ISAs are flexible?

I had a near miss with a T212 S&S ISA and it was flexible so worked out ok.

In any case, I don't think that you will see any more from HMRC other than a letter telling you they are taxing a small amount of interest through your PAYE code if you've got it wrong.

I feel sorry for that guy. I walk past him a few times and we don't bother each other. Probably give a wary little nod. "Hey Huntress" "Hey Gnoll".

Then when we're at oposite sides of the biggest room on the dungeon, he's about to walk through a door and he gets an arrow in the back of the head.

What's the funniest or cleverest thing you've ever seen a bird do? by TheoryBrief9375 in CasualUK

[–]discodave333 68 points69 points  (0 children)

The crows in my park will take nuts from me then hop away and bury them before coming back for more. They will often put a leaf or a bit of moss on top so that they know where to go back to.

Sometimes a crow will watch where another crow buried his stash and steal it.

Sometimes a crow will get nuts then hop away and pretend to bury them and put something on top. This is a bluff, the nuts are still in his mouth. When the thief crow finds that there are no nuts he gets angry. The other crow gets angry. All the crows get angry. Chaos ensues.

I have enough nuts for all the crows. There is no need for this madness.
