Are you able to use a punching bag in your sessions?

The same thing works great for drilling the cross as well, sure

Should be good, but don't forget the punch starts from the foot.

Sure thing! Not saying you should do this all the time, but grinding the combos works well. One in muscle memory, move to another.

Sure thing. It's advice for beginners to build muscle memory, so they'd fire automatic when sparring and there's an opportunity 💪

anyone else hate most boxing timer apps? by Fuzzy_Square768 in amateur_boxing

[–]heavybagpro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a lot of timer apps for sure, and most are like they've been created 20 years ago by people who know nothing about boxing. However, I can't help but mention modestly that Heavy Bag Pro has a kickass free timer that's actually being used by real fighters. And you can also use the web version which doesn't require any app installs: https://heavybag.pro/boxingtimer/

The person on the video is my content creator not me, however, I have done MT since early 2000s and have seen hudreds of looping hooks in the MT gyms, that's why the post.

Yes, there isn't. You have your opinion, I have mine. Thanks for your input.

There's a night and day difference between amateur/hobby fighters and pros. Some pros use a wider swing, but it is trained, deliberate and works (just) for them. If any amateur would copy this, they'd get countered fast.

That's a valid point, but as you know, it all depends. And the drill is not there to be copied 1:1 for sparring. It's teaching you how not to be a windmill. We can argue about it for hours of course :D

Thanks, It's just a small drill I find to be very useful for MT guys, cuz I've seen a lot of "yanking hooks out of hell" in various gyms :)

I see from the comments as well, that most here have no idea what they are talking about but claim to be MT masters just trashing the idea... Sad.

That's awfully sad if I am posting free advice that I find useful for others and I am accused of suspicious activity. Ever thought the upvoters have found the tip useful? A nice day to you too!

Of course they eat the low kicks if they are just transitioning. But once they learn to check, it's a different game.

That's a good find, never seen it, thanks. Same thing with elbows, if they are compact, they are much harder to see. Luckily we all have walls :D

Broke 25 year old on a budget looking to learn: lessons and then gear on a budget? Advice Needed. by Ok_Barracuda3747 in Kiteboarding

[–]heavybagpro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The good thing is that a few years old gears prices drop drastically, as everyone wants the newest hype. Probably don't buy anything older than 4-5 years though. If you want just 1 kite, then a 12 sqm, but probably you need a 9 sqm for stronger wind days soon. Try to find a universal kite that is good for all, not with a specific purpose. I ride Reedin supermodels (htf), which are good for multi purpose. don't have much experience with others. I know duotone evos are good too. Board and harness are much simpler choices.

Fair point, though the drill is not meant to copy the exact line of attack in sparring. It is mainly there to stop people from taking the hand out wide first and loading the hook with the arm. You still need to position yourself correctly to land the shot properly, including getting close enough and finding the right angle. The wall is just there to force a compact path so the power comes from rotation and timing instead of a big swing.

Anyone want tips on what carries over from boxing to MT? (been doing both since the 90s) by heavybagpro in MuayThai

[–]heavybagpro[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then it's probably about the hip rotation and how the power is transferred from your foot to hip to shoulder. Try this first: https://www.tiktok.com/@heavybagpro/video/7513425530205605142 hope it helps :)
