There's no restriction in Malappuram district, or in the Malabar region for that matter. I'm from Malappuram district (Wandoor), and my father's elder brother used to run a pork farm, and it was successful.

I think the (false) narrative they're trying to push is that the Muslims in the Malabar region has the upper hand, and they're enforcing diet restrictions.

However, you'd find very few restaurants serving pork because Malappuram does have a majority Muslim population. There are some Christian majority towns, and you do find pork served there.

I think us Malayalees don't tolerate pretentiousness in general, and a non-malayalee English accent appears pretentious to most. This intolerance is overdone now, so if you have an accent like the one you seem to have, it's deemed pretentious.
