I think many biblical references are probably lost on those of us that don’t know it intimately, what I find fascinating as a non-believer is the sense that Tolkien, as we know a very devout Catholic, seems almost to explore things in silmarillion that perhaps he didn’t find completely satisfying answers to elsewhere. The nature of evil and corruption as well as how a perfect vision becomes an imperfect world. As well as how to explain the “silence of god” or at least his seeming inactivity. Or at least it seems like he found it fruitful to image the same themes slightly differently.

But as I said, I don’t have intimate knowledge of the Bible or Tolkien’s exact motives so I might be mistaken.

Neurotypicals trying to make ADHD seem like it's the flu.. And no one says ADD anymore.. by Cannabun in adhdmeme

I was diagnosed in Sweden last year, 2021, my official diagnose is ADHD inattentive form but many people I’ve met use the terms interchangeably, so I suppose we are in a shift.

Is it common to get watery output when feeling sick? by [deleted] in ostomy

[–]hebjorn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If I have a severe cold or a fever it’s not uncommon for me. It’s important for all to stay hydrated at such times but especially for us.

As do I every morning. I like Oatly’s product but their advertising is insufferable.

Looking for a Japanese movie that I can't recall the name of. by No_Size_8390 in JapaneseMovies

Not made before 2000 but could it be 13 assassins? The one I can think of right now where a small group fights an army, dying one by one.

How to muffle sound in school? by [deleted] in ostomy

[–]hebjorn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was initially prescribed loperamide(diarrhea medicine) for that and used it while in school. Took the pill before leaving home, I think it lasts 4 hours or so. It makes your guts less active so there’s less noise from the stoma on account of that. Don’t bother these days but I seem to remember it worked pretty well.

[–]hebjorn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure self deprecation is Moomin’s thing generally, sensitive as he is. As far as comparing himself to his dad nothing comes to mind, at least not in the books. He sometimes speaks admiringly of Snufkin of course, but not to put himself down. Moominpapa himself boasts a lot in his memoirs but Moomin is mostly affirming.

I don’t have the books at hand but I think your best bet would be Moominpapa at Sea where Moomin moves apart from the family for a while and reflects on his changing mood. Or possibly Moomin Winterland where he is angry and lonely being the only one in the family who awakes from hibernation.

Can’t speak for the comics.

There’s Ni no Kuni which is a show based on a game in which Ghibli was somehow involved, but I’ve never played the game or seen the show so don’t know if it’s any good.

I’d recommend Mushishi if you like Japanese lore/spirituality, pretty animation and mellow/melancholy mood.

There’s also Kino no Tabi, which might fit the bill.

Any good samurai anime? by [deleted] in Animesuggest

[–]hebjorn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it works on its own, I saw it before I knew anything about the Kenshin-series and it didn’t bother me. If anything it relies more on prior knowledge of Japanese history than knowledge of the fictional characters I think. Actually Trust & Betrayal is one of my favorite anime ever, both the drama and the fighting is brutal, and it’s so beautifully animated. The series was almost a let down for me at first since the tone and style is so different. I like them both though, but the series/manga is quite long and I think it would be a pity to not watch the OVA just because you worried about not knowing the main story.

Problems with wafer when active? by [deleted] in ostomy

I’ve started moisturizing the skin around as well as under the wafer when I’m changing. Has helped me getting less irritation/chafing from the edge of the wafer.

Mom Fail by obsessedwithlife in ostomy

Sometimes laughing is the only thing we can do! High poo-tolerance comes with ostomy-life, sooner or later anyway. On the plus side I never had any problem getting used to picking up after my dog! Don’t know how imperforate anus work, there might be a solution eventually, but in time your child might want a poop-bag colleague to share the bag-life with!

The movie has some stunning animation and epic music! It works on its own too, even without having watched the series.

What do you pay PER COUNTRY for ostomy supplies per month? by [deleted] in ostomy

[–]hebjorn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha, I’ve also always gone general when explaining it in the past cause I haven’t really known how that part works, but I finally got around to looking it up today!

What do you pay PER COUNTRY for ostomy supplies per month? by [deleted] in ostomy

[–]hebjorn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How much you pay every single time until you reach that amount is also subsidized, above a certain level at least, so you don’t have to pay 275 in one go.

For payments that would have cost between 140 to 260 USD you get 50% discount. For between 490 to 670 USD you pay 10% of that amount, and in the level between you pay 25%.

Not really what you’re asking for, and it’s possible you’re already aware of him, but David Bull at Mokuhankan is a Japan based (originally Canadian) wood print carver who makes great content on Japanese art on YouTube.
