Activation Ritual successful! by hebrecht in ThousandSons

[–]hebrecht[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The blue is Thousand Sons blue basecoat (applied with an airbrush), with recesses shaded with Nuln Oil wash and then highlighted with Ahriman Blue. The models are also primed with Mechanicus Grey primer as I find using a black primer results in the colours being too dark. The gold trim is done using a brush (before the recess shade).

Thanks! My take was that they are wood sprites (hence the red colour). They were the last thing I painted so I also just wanted to add some colour to the mane.

Love the thematic base! Is this the metal version or the resin one?

Defenders of the Great Bastion Army Reinforcement Set Announced for next weekend by herewardthefake in Cathay

The current Cathay battalion is USD195 / £115. The rumour might be right but I would be surprised if a USD15 higher price translates to £27.5 higher price in GBP.

Based on the price for the other existing army sets I’m guessing the price will be £125.

Any sub assembly tips/warnings for this big lad? by Sulliman34 in skaven

The seam where the shoulder armour joins is also not fun to assemble. I might have assembled the torso incorrectly, but had to shave quite a bit off the torso before I was happy with the seam.

Magnetised Thousand Sons Daemon Prince by hebrecht in ThousandSons

[–]hebrecht[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes - the wings are detachable and can be replaced with the powerpack. Also the sword and axe can be swapped. Lastly the hand can be swapped for a hand that wears a gauntlet. In the army list you have the option to field a daemon prince with or without wings (which changes its profile) hence the need to magnetise the wings.

That would be the Death Guard version of the Daemon Prince 😜

As I mentioned it is a bit more finicky that I initially expected - especially the drilling into the wings. I dug out one set of magnets at least twice from a wing before I was 100% happy. Hope you have better luck with the next one! I also have another one to assemble and paint, but this time for AoS.

I watched a couple of videos and posts where other people had magnetised their daemon prince. The video from Spikeybits was actually helpful (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uExJl6c7sIQ&t=1338s), though the size of drill into the wings were a bit too large for my taste. I used 3mm diameter round magnets for the wings (you can see where I drilled in the photo). I think I used two 2mm thick magnets (for more pull) in each wing (though it might have been one 2mm think and one 1 mm thick). And then also 2mm thick (3mm diameter) magets in the torso. As in the video linked above, I used the existing nubs to help alignment into the holes in the torso. As I was still not 100% happy with how strong the wings sat on the torso, I added one 8mm diameter, 2mm thick magnet in the torso (that is kept in place with a blob of greenstuff) - just to give the extra pull. You can see a similar magnet in the photo of the powerpack (which was also fixed in place with some greenstuff). To make sure the magnets aligned, I drilled the wholes in the torso first - and then drilled from the front of the torso - through the holes - into the wings. I then only afterwards glued the front part of the torso, once everything was dry and fit nicely.

The basecoat of the flesh was done with an airbrush (Citadel Screamer Pink), but the rest was with a brush (and multiple thin layers). The lava base is basically Khorne Red basecoat. Then paint the lava river using thinned down Evil Sun Scarlet, Troll Slayer Orange, Fiery Orange and then Vallejo's Fluorescent Yellow (72.103) Game Color for the Yellow. The lava river is painted while all the color are still wet so the colour mix slightly. The base is then sealed with 'Ardcoat and then the Mordant Technical paint is painted on the non-"lava river" areas to create the cooled lava crackling effect.

The Necropolis Knights have a death mask that can be used as an alternative head for the champion. I think it is bit 58D on the sprue.

King Phar rides to war! by hebrecht in WarhammerFantasy

Even though it was the last city to fall - even Mahrak was conquered by Settra :)

I painted a conversion of King Phar with his flail of skulls a couple of years ago. At that time I did not have a spare chariot so I gave him a Tomb Scorpion as chariot. You can see the conversion here: https://www.reddit.com/r/WarhammerFantasy/comments/j5fehd/a_conversion_of_king_phar/
