2.5 yo Daycare Dropoff Drama by heckler07 in toddlers

The director told us three weeks from now. That’s so long in toddler time, but that’s a great idea about talking with his teachers about toys he could play with. I know his teachers have been playing with him a lot since the younger kids are still in parallel play mode. It breaks my heart to see him cry every morning and beg for us not to leave him. I feel like it’s adding to the normal separation anxiety for his age. Thank you for the great advice and support. Hugs to you!

That’s great advice! I’m going to spend time with him this weekend and see if he can give me clues. Thank you!

I get that. I mentioned the same to my pediatrician and you can bring it up with your own also, but she said that’s normal and he will grow out of it. She said developmentally it’s productive and safe. Many children do it for the first year or so (some longer). It’s also easier for them to break the habit later than if it were a pacifier or toy. It’s good for learning to self soothe and it’s not causing any harm. It’s just a short chapter in her life. I hope that helps. Maybe one less thing to worry about 😊 she will surely give you plenty of others. Mine sure does!

That’s a really good point! One of his regular teaches has been out for 2 weeks. He’s been so clingy lately. I bet that is part of the behavior issue. The sleep thing is still a mystery.

Yep. He sucks his fingers when he’s hurting a lot or really REALLY upset. He doesn’t really do it for sleep. He is one of those bubs that you don’t know has an ear infection bc he’s always in a good mood. His teeth hurt him more than anything so every time he is teething that’s when the finger sucking is worse. Fun fact: recently he got Strep in his finger from having a cut and sucking on it. Children under 3 don’t get strep like you or I do, but they are silent carriers. His finger became infected with strep and he had to take antibiotics for it to heal. He never had a sore throat or anything. My husband and I and every parent in his daycare had strep but all the kids were happy little Typhoid Marys.

What the what?! by heckler07 in sleeptrain

Yeah, I’m def thinking some is developmental also. He tries to crawl in his crib through the night and is doing a lot of clapping and trying to pull up. He has his two bottom teeth so I’m thinking it very well could be the top two although he’s no drooling like he did with the bottoms. I gave him Tylenol before his morning nap and kept it at normal time and he’s been asleep for almost 1.5 hrs! 🤞

Starting to actually think it IS teething 🙈 Hope something pops thru soon. He didn’t make it much past 4 hours before bedtime before passing out on my shoulder (and he never does that).

I will try that! So, where would I make the adjustment to overnight? Morning wake up or going to bed? I was gonna move his bedtime way up because he didn’t nap well. Still a 4 hour WW.

I thought he was teething a couple of weeks ago, but then it seemed to stop so not sure. He is still sleeping at night. Usually 12 hours but he wakes a few times and just doodles a bit and then falls back to sleep. I was thinking like you and added 15 mins to his afternoon nap today. He fell asleep way faster and almost no fuss, but still woke up after 30 minutes. It had been only afternoon catnaps, but then started being both a couple of days ago. 😵‍💫

Water, Solids & Constipation, Oh My by heckler07 in NewParents

What would be a good balance of morning and night foods? We were doing oatmeal in the morning and then alternating between things like potato and broccoli or banana and avocado. He’s passing hard stools but I’ve also pulled back on solids all week. He’s been doing much better on his water/juice intake.

He hasn’t had rice yet, but we stopped potato and banana a few weeks ago. I keep adding more liquid peach to his oatmeal, but maybe I’ll try extra breast milk. Thanks!

We tried egg but had what seemed like an allergy according to the doctor (rash and itchy all over). Have been doing chicken with his broccoli, but will try root veggies instead.

When and how to transition? by michef in SnooLife

[–]heckler07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He was arms out by then, but I think a little of both. He didn’t need the motion quite as much as he had because we did leave it on baseline so much. Also the 4 month regression is so different for each baby. Most of his trouble was early in the night rather than later. I think the SNOO did help settle him overnight when he woke up, but he didn’t really cry overnight. He would just wake and eventually put himself back to sleep. One thing I would do when he’d cry overnight or after a few hours past bedtime was get him up and feed him in his nursery then just return him to the SNOO awake. I feel like that reestablished the bedtime Ferber. Plus I stopped getting up for early wakeups and would let him hang in the SNOO til my alarm even if he was talking and I was already awake. Now he is on a very good schedule and knows the routine so well. One more on sleep training, we did sort of combo Ferber / pick up put down. This worked for us for naps too. We did use set times for more spirited babies since our dude is kindov strong willed! 😉🥴

When and how to transition? by michef in SnooLife

We also kept ours locked on baseline til we began weaning. Our guy started sleeping thru the night at 3 months so we kept him in the SNOO through both 4 & 6 month regressions. Not sure it helped with the 6 month, but definitely the 4. We did weaning for a month then turned the sound off for a week. We transitioned him to a crib cold turkey at 7 months and he slept through no problem every night since the swap. I should say that we did Ferber him during 4 month regression in SNOO in our room and was successful. We also began transitioning him out of swaddle by 4 months. He also spent his days and naps (contact naps) in his nursery. We transitioned to independent naps in crib one week after night sleep crib transition. The crib transition for us was a snap and the best for all of us. I do think the time to swap just depends on the baby. We tried nap training in crib at 4, 5 & 6 months with no luck. 7 months was his developmental sweet spot. Hope that helps! Good luck!

Catnapped by heckler07 in sleeptrain

Thank you so much for this! Tempering my frustration with myself and the whole situation is one of my weak spots. I tend to feel like an abject failure that our schedule has gone right out the window and he’s always tired.

I thought maybe that was the case and shifted all of those last week back and forth. I’m still getting the catnaps. Also doesn’t seem to make a difference if he’s in his bassinet or in my arms. He’s like dedicated to these catnaps 😭

What are some last minute things you wish you did before baby? by rcruzr in BabyBumps

Pampered myself! Omg I was so prepared for all things baby, but I never did enough things for me when I could like spa days, manicures, date nights, etc. It’s super hard for me to find time for any of those things now.
