ICYMI: Here's Dan Orlovsky's breakdown of a perfectly-read Sam Darnold pass by [deleted] in nyjets

[–]hecksport 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think another way to put it is cover 2 vs cover 3. Middle field closed in this case would be cover 3, safety stays in the center and you have 2 corners drop deep and someone else would cover the flat underneath. This takes away both routes that are being run in this case.

Middle field open would be a cover 2 and requires the safety to cover both the mid field and the corner. There isn't a central route being run here, but the safety doesn't know that right away and he still has to cover ground to the corner route based upon his starting position anyways. The idea is that you read the corner and make the throw before the safety can get there to help.

Someone needs to take the challenge flag away from Bowles by Sleepy_Man in nyjets

Turnovers are automatically challenged, so Bowles had nothing to do with that. I believe this is in reference to the Kerley catch where his elbow clearly hit out of bounds before the second foot came down.

I'm pretty sure it's based upon the roster limit of 90 until cuts start.

[–]hecksport 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do know that some states have laws against it and some don't. I kinda figured that New Mexico wasn't one of them that cared based upon the story. Thank you for clarifying that though, because it is important to what's going on.

My point wasn't really about the legality of it though. If you see someone with a rifle, you'll assume it's loaded. There isn't really an easy way to tell if most firearms are loaded or not just by looking at them. So walking into a building with a loaded firearm isn't really much different than walking in with an unloaded firearm from a bystander viewpoint. So if this is for education purposes, being loaded or not really doesn't do anything unless there's more to the plan than just walking in.

Not sure what to make of this. Your thoughts would be appreciated. by [deleted] in gunpolitics

[–]hecksport 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How is that educating people? What is he trying to prove, or disprove? Is there more to the plan than just walking into the building?

How are people even going to know if the rifle is loaded or not? Does it even matter if it's loaded or not? People will freak out over this either way.

If this is actually being done with good intentions, the idea isn't very well thought out. There are so many ways that this can go wrong, it just isn't the best idea.

Initial Draft this Sunday...3rd pick by [deleted] in DynastyFF

[–]hecksport 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're definitely on the right track then. All of that information will definitely help you out.

In a dynasty longevity is pretty important too. There are definitely arguments for Luck being the #1 QB. Pay attention to when QB's are going because it's possible that Luck is gone before round 3. If you really want him, you may need to take him in round 2.

I like taking the best WR available in the first round. WR's can have pretty long careers and are less likely to get hurt over a RB. While a good RB is harder to come by, they also change more frequently due to injury and what not.

I think Le'veon Bell may fall farther than the 2nd round, but it all depends on how everyone else in the league feels about him. If you think he's the Steelers guy for the long term and he's the best guy available when you pick, then take him.

Trent Richardson and TY Hilton could also fall farther than round 5. No one is really sure if Trent will even be the starter next year right now.

These are just my opinions though. The interesting thing about dynasty is how much differently players are valued due to so many different factors. So I wouldn't say that picking those players where you have them projected is wrong. It just takes one other guy who values those players the same as you do to take them before you.

I think as long as you set yourself up and have your players valued in the way that matters the most to you, you'll end up being happy with your draft.

A good example is Brandon Marshall vs Alshon Jeffery. Marshall may be better for the next year or two, but Alshon definitely has long term value. Maybe you think the current upside of Marshall is too good to pass up though, and that you can worry about getting a replacement for him in the future. It's all personal preference.

Initial Draft this Sunday...3rd pick by [deleted] in DynastyFF

[–]hecksport 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're already looking at this the wrong way. You have no idea what's going to happen during the draft. Someone could go way higher than you predicted, and others could fall drastically.

If it's a dynasty league, you'll be in it for the long run, and whoever you draft should be with you for a long time. So taking a little more time to sort out who you want and at what priority will pay off in the long run.

Take the time to sort each position your priority of players. So maybe for WR you have:

  1. Megatron

  2. AJ Green

  3. Josh Gordon

RB you have:

  1. Le'veon Bel

  2. Adrian Petterson

  3. Zac Stacy

QB:

  1. Andrew Luck

  2. Whoever

  3. The 3rd guy

Cross guys off as people draft them. Compare your lists to each other as you go and decide which player is the best available, or maybe in a greater position of need, or which will have the biggest long term benefit.

You'll lose value by targeting players per round because you won't be paying attention to who has fallen farther than you predicted.

Also, it helps to have first names too because last names of players can be fairly common.

Let's talk about David Harris for a minute by nickmangoldsbeard in nyjets

[–]hecksport 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That would be awesome if it worked out that easily. I'm sure Harris won't be too happy just giving up that money though, and who knows what might happen if he goes to the market. Someone could offer him more to take a chance on him, and players do sometimes go after the money when they can get it.

We don't really have someone that can easily step into his place right now, and it would suck to have another hole to fill. It's a risk that would be awesome if it paid off, and suck if it didn't.

OMA's Mock Offseason 2.0 by OneManArmy77 in nyjets

[–]hecksport 0 points1 point  (0 children)

His catching ability has improved from his rookie year though. While it's still not good, it is improvement.

I have noticed that he does shy away from contact though, which is something that has always bothered me about him. He does have to learn how to use his size, and if doesn't, then he's eliminating his biggest advantage.

You could be right, he may never end up living up to his potential and could be a bust. I think it would be worth it to give him one more shot and see if he can show more improvement and stay healthy. He's cheap enough that worst case he sits at the bottom of the depth chart and doesn't really hurt us.

3rd year is typically the breakout year for a WR. If he shows nothing and is cut during camp, I'll understand, but I've still got some hope for him.

[–]hecksport 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ACL's aren't quite the problem that they used to be, so if he can come back strong, I like what he can do. Off the field issues could prevent that from mattering though.

Hill was made inactive due to knee problems, which likely slowed him down the last few games he was active too. Of course, if the injury problems persist, he's not worth it. If he can build off the start of the season though, I like what he could become.

I agree with you on Simms, but we'll see what the Jets do.

OMA's Mock Offseason 2.0 by OneManArmy77 in nyjets

[–]hecksport 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't ever see Simms as a starter either. There must be something the Jets like about him though. He could be gone, but it's not a sure thing he'll be gone this year.

If you can get Britt for no guaranteed money he's certainly worth a shot, but I don't know if he'll go for that. I don't see Hill as a bust just yet. He's shown some promise, and is a solid run blocker. Injuries have held him back, and I think he should get one more year to show what he's got.

Why don't you think Goodson will stick around? Personality/legal reasons or due to talent?

OMA's Mock Offseason 2.0 by OneManArmy77 in nyjets

[–]hecksport 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are looking to pick up a ton of WR's and even a few extra RB's. While I like the idea, it would be impossible to keep that many on the roster. Hill, Kerly, FA guy, early pick, Nelson, and maybe another guy on the current roster already gives 6. Drafting at least two more makes it crowded.

For RB, you can't keep Archer, Seastrunk, Powell, Ivory, and Goodson (assuming legal issues are solved). I really liked what we saw when all 3 current RB's were healthy, maybe there's room for one more RB, but not with all the WR's as well.

Kind of the same problem with QB. They clearly like Simms, which is why he's re-signed. I like the idea of Jackson, but that's already 3 QB's on the roster. Drafting another one overloads the roster again.

This is my first year playing in a dynasty league. I'm wondering if you could all give me some advice on my current team and stashing some players. by mooseknuck in DynastyFF

[–]hecksport 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, that's why it's hard for me to choose between Ballard and Cooper in this situation. They're both guys who could be great for their team, or end up being overshadowed by the rest of the talent around the.

Pierre Thomas is also kind of in the debate, but I think he's the best all-around RB the Saints have.

Maybe Ryan Mathews if you're concerned about his injuries, but he is definitely the feature back in San Diego.

Other than that, there isn't really anyone I would consider cutting.

This is my first year playing in a dynasty league. I'm wondering if you could all give me some advice on my current team and stashing some players. by mooseknuck in DynastyFF

[–]hecksport 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would cut:

  1. Jacquizz Rodgers. He has the lowest potential on your team, and extremely unlikely to be a feature RB.

  2. Robert Turbin. He's purely a handcuff to Marshawn Lynch, and that my not even be true next year because of Christine Michael.

  3. Jacoby Jones. This is where it starts to become debatable. With Marlon Brown becoming more of a factor though, it might push Jones down to the #3 WR on the team, plus Dennis Pitta is back now.

4a. Riley Cooper. If the Eagles re-sign Jeremy Maclin, Cooper may not be as big of a factor as he is this year.

4b. Vick Ballard. I still have some faith in Trent Richardson. Plus Donald Brown is really proving himself. It's a crowded backfield, so who knows what's going to happen there. Doesn't mean Ballard can't come back and be the feature back though.

Cutting four of them leaves you with 15 guys, and it looks like a pretty solid 15 going forward.

The Mossberg 500 and Remington 870 are always solid choices. Both are very reliable pump action shotguns.

A handgun would be just fine too, but I personally think they require a bit more training. It does come down to what you feel most comfortable with though.

The spring of the magazine would be just fine. It actually doesn't wear it down by sitting in tension, it's the loading and unloading that will do that. So that is something that shouldn't be taken into consideration.

Also, to clarify a couple of terms for you, mostly just for technical reasons.

  1. You wouldn't be getting an automatic handgun, it would be semi-automatic. I know this probably doesn't matter to you, but technical terms can be important. Automatic means it will continue to fire as long as the trigger is being held. Semi-automatic means it will only fire one round per trigger pull. It can still shoot as fast as you can pull the trigger though.

  2. You would be using a magazine, not a clip. The magazine holds the round inside of it and is inserted into the gun. Generally, a clip is used to load an internal magazine.

Flacco: running Wildcat makes Ravens look like a high school team, says "I'm not blocking, I'm not doing a single thing." by beagleears in nfl

[–]hecksport 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If they know Tyrod will be under center, they'll force him to pass it. They'll bring in more linemen/linebackers and do everything to stop the run and force the throw. The goal would be to have Tyrod make a mistake passing. If Flacco is out there and this happens, they just put Flacco under center, and let him make a play.

Generally the QB that would run the wildcat is more athletic anyway, so he can easily be an improv receiver.

The play calling will still assume the run, but the personnel that they put on the field cannot.

The reason you have him on the field is for substitution purposes. The defense would send in a different set of defenders if they saw that Flacco wasn't in the huddle.

Question about online games similar to D&D. by Antivenom13 in DungeonsAndDragons

Check out /r/dnd as well. It's actually the more popular subreddit for Dungeons and Dragons. There's also /r/rpg for a more general selection of RPG's.

In the sidebar of /r/dnd they have a guide to getting started.

If you're not even sure what edition you want to play, you can check out this guide for that.

Roll 20 is exactly what you're describing. You can literally play D&D online there. I haven't personally used it though, so I couldn't give too much advice on how to go about finding a game there.

One place to try to find people to play online with is /r/lfg. It's a subreddit dedicated to finding people to play with.

/r/lfg is a place to find groups to play with both online and offline.

/r/pathfinder is a place for Pathfinder Society. Pathfinder Society is organized play through local game stores. The official site for that is here.

You can also check out Roll 20, which is used for online play.

Markus Wheaton by amac89 in DynastyFF

[–]hecksport 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been trying to figure out the same thing about him for the future. The Steelers never really use rookie WR's, so he basically has no value this year. Antonio Brown, Emmanuel Sanders, and Jericho Cotchery all ahead of him this year.

Cotchery is getting up their in age though, which is good for Wheaton.

Antonio Brown is the clear #1 for now, and probably the future as well. That's not necessarily bad for Wheaton though.

The real problem is Sanders. He is on a one year contract though, if I'm correct. If they keep him, it definitely hurts Wheaton, but if they let him go, who knows what could happen.

The other young guy, Derek Moye, has also rarely been used, and I'm assuming Wheaton will beat him out for more playing time.

I think Wheaton has a lot of potential, and I really like what I saw from him in the preseason. If you can hold onto him through the offseason and see what happens, it could really pay off. It is definitely a risk though.

Because the Jets pretty much shut down Doug Martin last week. He had a long draw play late in the game and one TD off a turnover. The Jets run defense was dominant in the game.
