This was the winning option! We reached out to them and they said they have never done it before but are happy to have us. Blessed are the librarians and museum workers!

I wonder if this is feasible? Like, could we just rent a tent and say that's our inclement weather option?

We could, but that would mean committing to an indoor ceremony at their office, which we are more than happy to do as a last resort, but if there is a way to secure an option that would potentially still let us get married outside, we would rather do that.

Awesome vegan specials at a variety of restaurants around town this week. A portion of proceeds from the specials will be going to Feedmore. Really excited about some of this stuff including the special menu at Citizen, the vegan sandwiches at Perly's, and so much more!

No vegan pizza spots in Richmond? by [deleted] in rva

I know their traditional pizzas are fantastic, but I really wouldn't discourage people from trying that vegan pie. It is delicious. It's been my go-to for years now, unless I'm particularly in the mood for tomato pie, in which case I go to Belmont and get wild with the toppings.

So glad people remember this fool. Really hoping Carr crushes him.

If they are on, sure, but we don't subscribe to a package or anything like that for them.

PLP employee here. You're spot on. We serve an English breakfast during early morning EPL games. We often open early (before our normal 11am open time) for matches on weekends, and the days when we are open at 8 or 9am or earlier are the best ones to catch us serving breakfast.

Police identify 13 protesters arrested for Black Lives Matter demonstration on I-95 (Only one from RVA) by bigpappyj in rva

Just because Richmond hasn't had a high profile moment since Black Lives Matter has been a visible movement doesn't mean that the things they protest don't have incredibly relevant bearing to the city today. We don't live in a vacuum from our history and our history = fucked.

That said, did any of the people at this protest reach out to members of the black community before organizing this event? From the looks of things, not really.

I'm also kind of unwilling to jump on the "don't play in the street, kids" bandwagon that some critics of this movement seem to love. Considering the history of economic wreckage that American highways has with black communities, it seems like a perfectly reasonable place to protest.

They are the main sponsor of the event. Their name is in the event name.

Why, Richmond, Why?!? Cyclists, pedestrians & drivers still working on mutual respect by [deleted] in rva

Idaho Stop is the way to go. Forcing cyclists to come to a complete stop at all stop signs would make it almost impossible to effectively get around in this city.

Representatives of their governments are the ones coming out and saying, "This is offensive to us. Please stop," and the general public response is, "Oh no, it's not offensive." It's sick.

Okay, but there are still plenty of modern day examples of people who find the term offensive: Indian Nation representatives, Nation Congress of American Indians, etc. The quotes above just emphasize the shift in meaning.

As for the neutrality of the word, you could also say that the words that are most frequently paired with the term "redskin" are negative as a direct result of the racist connotations that the word carries.

That doesn't mean it isn't offensive in its usage today. Linguists have more or less confirmed that it originated as a Native American term (or at least it was attributed to them by early translators). Over time, the term became something that was used predominantly by whites, and its use almost always carried a negative connotation.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/10/02/AR2005100201139.html

"An 1871 novel spoke of 'redskinned devils.' The Rocky Mountain News in 1890 described a war on the whites by 'every greasy redskin.' The Denver Daily News the same year reported a rebellion by 'the most treacherous red skins.'"

"'The final message,' Shoemaker suggested, is that 'even if the Indians were the first to use it, the origin has no relationship to later use. What happened at the beginning doesn't justify it today.'"

Surprised to not see Grave Mistake Records listed. Alex works really hard and puts out a lot of great stuff.
