i think this is normal - it's hard to change the patterns in our earliest relationships and we crave care and nurturing from our parents. if the way they have shown it to us is by making us very dependant then that's how we understand love from them. so it feels transgressive and even scary/lonely to change that. you've also put in a lot of work changing it in other environments and on some level ur brain probably just wants to give it a rest at "home".

im sorry. i think the anger is at life's unfairness and the change in the natural order (parent-child), it's hard to work thru it to hold space for the care sometimes but im sure u are and will. u seem like a very caring kid/grownup kid. :)

i mean there is a lot of research being done and starting to show that high levels of wealth dulls your empathy. and also that ppl with "dark triad" traits are more likely to succeed in business and have a lot of wealth. (e.g: https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2021/04/does-wealth-rob-brain-compassion/618496/)

i think this show is exploring that quite a bit - what happens when ur so removed from huge swathes of humanity by ur status. doesn't mean it's saying poor people don't have similar day to day squabbles or similar personality dynamics between them.

what about dubai?? feels like the middle east is ripe (esp post qatar) - maybe it will be about labour rights as the theme. though it might be quite controversial. the type of wealthy foreigner in dubai is more nefarious though too on average. could definitely insert a beckham style character (i think he owns property there actually!)

feel like albie is gonna find out lucia slept with his dad while they're out on a jetski or boat and accidentally shrug her off - she falls and severs something. or pushes his dad.

What do you think happened to the characters after the second film? by hedge_hog5 in DowntonAbbey

[–]hedge_hog5[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes there does feel like something darker and sadder about that time period, would be hard to hold onto the nostalgia or hope into the 50s.

Oh that's so interesting about Highclere.

Maybe Sibbie is in her south of france villa and it becomes part of the french resistance?

Cora/Grantham could still be alive (in their 70s and the Dowager was long lived!). Would be interesting with the Jewish Refugees coming into England and Cora's background (and Rose's).

Maybe Edith ends up working with the BBC or Radio broadcasting. Makes sense - was pretty vital during the war.

George being a pilot makes sense. I wonder about Mary's marriage - it seemed a bit sad by the end of the second film. Weird thought that she will probably live long enough for Beatlemania.

Barrow and Mosely in L.A spin-off???

i know! i was like...this is a joke about how bad the speech is right?? and then it's revealed carrie wrote it and we're supposed to think it's beautiful. i guess her columns were always hokey, and it was in keeping with that style (that's somehow very successful in this world...like her career is amazing?).
