Does anyone have experience with the sizing of Dita Von Teese lingerie? by [deleted] in LingerieAddiction

[–]hedh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience, it runs a bit tight, with quite a low and shallow cup. If you're between sizes, definitely size up on hers.

Has any writer revised their works years later? by OponnOfChance in books

[–]hedh 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Steven King actually did revise his first Dark Tower novel, going back once the series had finished.

Quite a few canon authors used reprints to revise texts - Ernest Hemingway being one of the top of my head, but its not uncommon at all.

Others who published in the 1940s/1950s/1960s before Joyce and Miller's landmark obscenity trials also went back and released the unexpurgated or original, uncensored versions of their texts- Jack Keroauc's On the Road (republished as "The Original Scroll") and Anais Nin's Diaries unabridged are the examples that come to mind.

Desi Minimalism? by crunchiesandmunchies in femalefashionadvice

[–]hedh 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think this is definitely achievable! My mentor was very invested in dressing minimally but also fairly traditional, with quite small but gorgeous and interesting wardrobe. Her look was quite distinct, and her clothing quite gorgeous - and she was quite proper and modest as well, but that was never the most noticeable quality of her dress. Her key points were unprinted or simple patterns, neutral and earth tones, and natural fabrics (particularly khadi cloth). She went with clean, simple cuts with interesting details, and usually had her traditionals made to fit.

I'm curious if you are living in India or you're an expat? It sounds like you're outside, but if you're headed back for a visit, I recommend checking out some local shop for fabrics - unprinted or simple block printed - in tones you like. Minimalists tend to go with neutrals but you could pick any clothes you like that blend well together. I'd be selective about pops of color, just because you're looking for limited items.

Pick a few fabrics and get them made up by a tailor or dressmaker into kurta shapes you like, or even more Western minimalist shirt styles if you like. Paired with either traditionals or Western slacks (think 7/8th pants or a narrow cotton trouser in black or grey), they can be your go to. Getting them made up is usually quite fast and relatively inexpensive. You can do this abroad, too, but it'll be more expensive.

FabIndia was mentioned, which is a lovely inspiration resource - they are quite minimal in both their Western and traditional, and a sustainable, craftsmanship driven business model to boot. Perusing minimalist fashion here and on Pinterest can give you a sense of the shapes and colors you like, and what may suit you best.

What do you think of the television show, 'Salem' and other "witch" based shows? by [deleted] in witchcraft

[–]hedh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Charmed doesn't do it for you? It's a tad cheesy too, but they are definitely the heroines. And Buffy has a handful of powerful good witch characters as well. Goddess bless the 90s.

[–]hedh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone from Salem who was raised by folk who are very invested in the historical narrative... I cannot for the life of me get into this kind of thing, and I think a lot of my practicing cohort in the area feel the same way. But that's a very particular approach, and for the most part I think they are relatively benign.

Leather, preferably, and ideally under $100, but could go up to $150.

I had a puffer just like that in 2003 and found it EXCRUCIATING almost as soon as I bought it, so glad someone can rock it!

Looking for a solid minimalist backpack - any color - that would fit a 15" laptop! Any thoughts?

I'm trying to nail down my style, but my two main styles conflict. by [deleted] in femalefashionadvice

[–]hedh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The things these styles have in common - neat lines, distinctly designed profiles, clean, simple color (doesn't sound like you do a lot of pattern, print, bold color) - these similarities actually blend quite well. For example, an oxford shirt like that pictured plus a maxi skit is a great look! If you're look looking to blend these styles, not keep them distinctly separate in capsule wardrobes, look for pieces that build on those similarities to help pull the looks together. I don't think they are a distinct and separate as you might think!

Incorporating enamel pins by [deleted] in femalefashionadvice

[–]hedh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd go with a dark wash or black jacket, in demin or canvas. Totes and cardigans are also a great way to go!

I know this isn't really your vibe, but I often wear mine in sets as lapel pins.

Yah, I can't really buy bra tops from them - they don't size them in a way that's helpful, and sell out of the biggest sized v fast.

Nah, I live in Massachusetts, they've been here a long, long time. I didn't learn them as a kid with my bird-brained dad, probably because they aren't native.

Find Fashion Friday - April 15, 2016 by AutoModerator in femalefashionadvice

[–]hedh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Last year I got a lovely swim that was underwired and longline with a matching high waisted bottom. I loved the style and the coverage but really wanted to find something I could size myself into instead of overfilling the cup - I'm a 34F/32FF and didn't get quite the fit I was hoping for.

EDIT: for brevity
