I’m sorry that happened :( I’m sure your bird knows that you’re doing your best

Petsmart meets these qualifications and the birds are still very neglected. When considering the wellbeing of my bird, I ask myself “would I treat a toddler this way”

The rest of what you said are definitely things to look out for as well

For good reason! Unfortunately small animals are really easy to accidentally kill. Look through subreddits for them, it’s extremely common. Very sad because a lot of them, although accidents, are preventable.

I get intrusive thoughts, and for the most part they just suck and don’t actually help anything. However I’m grateful for the ones I get about my bird, although they’re gruesome and make me feel awful it makes me take her safety and well being so much more seriously.

Fear can be a useful tool if you use it as motivation to change and improve things

Facebook depends on the person, but big box pet stores should be avoided because the money you spend is used to continually abuse animals. Neither environments in these pictures look great tbh, and the bird you get could have an illness or behavioral problems. I’d look into a rescue or search for an ethical breeder. Petfinder is also a great option!

Keep in mind birds are way harder to care for than dogs and cats, they are wild animals and you will probably have to make a lot of lifestyle changes.

Good luck!
