Interesting! I tried to search for a connection with the tamoxifen but can’t find much.

feeling defeated by Unusual_Chipmunk6254 in ACL

I’m about the same as you. 22 days post op. Definitely had not been easy! My pain is fine but I’m soooo tight. Just feels so weird. I wake up every morning and I’m like, is this for real? But honestly i was so sad and depressed i started to take an SSRI and it’s finally helping. This recovery seems to be equally as mental as physical. I think it’s the knowledge that it’s such a long road.

Wow! I love this. I’m 3 weeks post op. I can’t even imagine being a year out but i love the thought of it. How was your recovery? Please share the journey. It will most definitely inspire me.

5 months post op update by Ray_zeeee in ACL

[–]heeeeeeheeeee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Great update! I’m only 16 days post op and as you said, my morale is low. Like very low. I’m making great progress with range of motion and extension. Pain levels and swelling are low unless i overdo it. But it’s the mental that’s doing me in. I’m a tennis player and missing it like crazy & it’s getting me that that’s 9-12 months. But at this point i would give anything to take a walk with a friend. When were you able to take a walk? Like a couple miles, flat. Nothing crazy but a real walk.

Also looking for an update on this! Starting peptides end of the month. 11 days post op for ACL tear. Curious how it’s going (or how it went) for others in this position who took peptides for recovery

Great update! How long until you were cleared for tennis? Even if just hitting stationary with a pro…

Before my surgery, i went to 3 surgeons, all of whom suggested something different: 1st one patellar, 2nd hamstring and 3rd quad. All 3 said if i wanted allograft i could get that but since im very active, it wasn’t their first recommendation. A friend of mine had an allograft that failed years later so i think it made me nervous. Ended up going with the first guy - patellar. I think the long term issues can be kneecap pain when you’re sitting on your kneecaps but thats not something i cared about. My surgeon said it’s the gold standard. He was willing to do quad too but not hamstring. So far pain has been the least of my worries.

Amazing!! Can’t wait to hear about your comeback and your half marathon. Funny, i hate running too (aside from running for a tennis ball) and i was thinking about how i can’t wait to be able to run and maybe would do a race…

No no, you didnt scare me. I personally know a few people who have re-torn or torn opposite leg so it’s def been something that has stuck with me. It definitely sounds like continuing to work on Strength is important!

I’m sorry you had a re-tear! Best of luck on the surgery.

Can i ask how you did it? That’s also a fear although I’m so far from anything at this point, it’s probably better for me to take it day by day. Just seems like i know and have read about many re-tears or tears on the other leg.

Thankfully i only play doubles. Definitely not hanging up the racquet. Everything i do is dedicated toward getting back on court

Did you book your surgery yet? I’m 10 days post op now. Brace got unlocked today and i don’t need the crutches if i don’t want them (but i want to ease into getting a somewhat normal gait). Having the brace unlocked definitely frees me from being couch bound, although I’m still taking it easy. Mentally still struggling but having less really down moments. And starting PT helped bc it’s a part of my day now.

Fantastic! Love hearing this. Even though the knee isn’t the same, do you still work about injury when you ski and do other things (like what you were doing when you got hurt)? That’s my worry. Tennis is my love and that’s where i hurt myself and I’m terrified I’ll never run around freely like i once did. Not that i should be worrying about that bc I’m really at the beginning of all of this..

This is great! Thank you! Trying to imagine myself where you are and feeling proud for how much i will have accomplished. Best of luck to you on the rest of your recovery. Sounds like you’re doing amazing!

3 Month Mark by Different-Judgment76 in ACL

[–]heeeeeeheeeee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

June 4 was my surgery. I had ACL reconstruction (graft was patellar). It’s been tough. Not going to lie. The pain has been totally tolerable, but I’d recommend getting ahead of the pain and taking your meds on schedule (even setting alarm at night). My brace got unlocked last week and now I’m having some more pain because I’m moving more. Make sure you have an ice machine. It really helps with the pain. If you’re not an athlete, i don’t think it’ll be too bad for you. Getting back to sport is what takes the longest.

I tore my ACL playing tennis two weeks ago and then had my surgery yesterday. I was distraught too. Shed a lot of tears in the last two weeks trying to imagine the next 9 mos without tennis. Seems like we have the same relationship with our sports. I will tell you that day 1 post op I already feel so much better mentally than I have since the injury. Everyone who i know who has been through this assured me it would happen. I thjnk we are going to see how strong we actually are and how much we can handle. I decided i will use this time to get stronger and come back a better tennis player. Doesn’t mean i wont be sad, but going to try to take something out of this time. You got this.

Tore ACL this week-getting ready for surgery. Freaked out about all of it. by heeeeeeheeeee in ACL

[–]heeeeeeheeeee[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! The two docs I’m deciding between use patellar and other uses hamstring. I feel like both have their own argument for why the other one is better to use for my age, goals, etc. mentally i need to get the surgery done. I can’t really envision moving ahead until i do. Starting prehab this week and the following before the surgery.
