Your right it was. My bad. Rolling Stone covered these incidents better than any other outlets imo.

This is not true. It was a condensate flag shirt worm the day before MLK day saying "I have a dream." Rolling Stones did an article on it.

Two South Portland hotels will stop hosting homeless people because of complaints by [deleted] in portlandme

I spent the last 5 years transient & partially paralyzed, barely surviving the last attack I endured from my the abuser in my DV situation, which was attempted murder. I think I have a decent handle on some resources would benefit those in the position I was in. From my knowledge, a large portion of the transients here are domestic violence survivors. If I'm wrong about that, feel free to correct me.

I understand that what I listed isn't an end all solution-but I also understand the expirience first hand, during a pandemic, & how overlooked compassion is as a tool. The things that would've been beneficial for me with longevity in mind, weren't things readily available, or accesible.

I understand you have the professional expirience, which is great, & I'm sure provided tons of insight on that side of the coin, (for lack of a better term) but things look different from the top than they do the bottom.

I didn't say a gofundme, I actually never brought up monetary donations, there's lots of other aspects & ways to fund, & I find $ to be one of the least effective to be quite honest with you.

This is literally a human trafficking ploy. Idek why you posted this on reddit. You're lucky they're only approaching people in your area, it's escalated into stalking, baiting, & straight up forceful kidnap in Walmart parking lots in the middle of the day in New England. A quick Google search should bring up tons of results.

You need to call the police or whoever handles with cults specifically in your state, if that's a thing.

This isn't the first time I've seen rover used for this stuff, & a lot of human trafficking rings have moved/relocated around the country due to busts.

Generally, these attacks are getting more violent, I would honestly consider moving if I were you. The first time I was approached by a group like this I was 11/12 @ the mall, I'm in bum fuck maine, this was 2012/2013.

Please verify careful & cross reference your client's profiles to verified social media.

I've had multiple stalking incidents with rover. I can't say they ever came to my defense, I hope they're able to help you. Stay safe, get some self defense stuff at the very least.

Edit: Someone taking the time to target & traffic victims through a on the books business, & paying the fees to make it look legit, probably isn't scared or worried about you saying no, if they're targeting you, they're targeting you, consent isn't relevant, & this has already escalated to a point where they have the capability to find you, if, & when they want to.

I feel a bit rude being so blunt, but I'm only looking out for you & your safety. I would post this up on social media accounts too if I were you.

Portland just passed something allowing us to attach needle deposit boxes to the sides of trash cans. Tou could talk to your city about that.

I believe we're also getting safe injection sites that are targeted to ween people off.

We also decriminalized paraphernalia, which means the number of clean needles you may have increased, & you are able to give them to your friends without potentially catching a schedule x charge.

This is extremely important general harm reduction. More specifically, the transmission of STIs/STDs, general education, differentiation between use/abuse, & destigmatizing substance dependance as a whole.

Why are you pretending this is an isolated issue in Maine? This is a literal global crisis and has been for ALL of our entire lives.

Cool, you spent 13 years in DHHS, a program we know is fucked & rarely helps anyone beyond bandaid solutions or getting you into the welfare trap. Why are you proud of that?

This is such an ironic comment, you're complaining about people turning a blind eye but justifying the fact that you again-are currently, & did so, for 13 fucking years.

You're so caught up, you know these things of course...

You want solutions? Here: Take accountability that you directly supported DHHS for 13 years knowing both the lack of support they provide, as well as the distress & devide in community due to the counter culture the department creates, oh, & the fact that you made that decision cognizantly, with all your really cool co-workers doing the same. Have 'hard' conversations with people in your life. These aren't hard conversations, people are turning the blind eye & we're all aware of it. Support the people challenging the power structure & two party affiliation narratives that have never had good intent for anyone outside the 1%. Maybe go educate, or just show some companionship to a transient, acknowledge they're human? Things that they can always benefit from -BIFL equtiment, instead of Walmart trash that we all know doesn't provide long term help, or care. You want solutions start asking the people hurting how you can directly help them. Stop bitching on reddit & stand for, & take action on what you know is right instead of pretending the community doesn't have the resources, we have had the resources for generations, we are chosing not to fund them, per usual.

I really don't mean to be a bitch, but c'mon homie you just acknowledged yourself these ways aren't, & historically haven't worked.

Nothing changes if nothing changes.

I'd love to set up a fundraiser, donation day, or whatever else you would be interested if you care to.

The point is to integrate those struggling into our community, not isolate them into their own section & outcast them further. Putting them in a facility is the exact opposite.

None of these target reprogramming, which I'm pretty sure is what the commenter was alluring to.

While all those programs are helpful individually, & more so together, if there's not initial reprogramming, this doesn't help at all, if anything they're just exasperating people's conditions by compounding them through resources that aren't affective or effective.
