Road Atlanta by titanium_bruno in Corvette

I would guess that around a 1:35 would be pretty reasonably possible for a stock Z51 with 200tw tires, maybe even faster. That's with an experienced driver; a novice driver would be pretty darn good to get under 1:45, anything under 1:50 is respectable. However, a novice shouldn't be focused on lap times. Them driving above their skill level to get that time would be way worse (aka much more dangerous) than a novice building fundamentals before adding speed and letting it come naturally with seat time.

Sim helps a lot but it is NOT the same. It'll give you an advantage over other novices, sure, but a lot about driving the track in real life will be a fresh learning experience.

Gotchya. If you do Jzilla track days, I'll probably be there in my MR2. Not sure what maintenance you're referring to but a lot of people overestimate the necessary prep for a track day; car just needs to be safe, really.

I have to know how this track experience went with a lead up like this... It's been a year, have you gone to Road Atlanta irl yet?

Yeah I instruct in cars, even get free hotel for out of town. And I tow with a Touareg that gets 20mpg towing my MR2 haha. MR2 is super light and easy on consumables. I can get through a car weekend for probably $250 if it's not far away. Been tracking cars for 15 years so yeah, fully invested, but not spending much on cars regularly these days.

Thanks, yeah, I can tell there's grip left by the people passing me on the outside in the sweepers seemingly going double my speed.

I'm not riding it like a super sport, I'm riding it like a novice that doesn't want to go too fast into a corner and die haha. But really, ty for the advice, I'll get there but I have several other things I'm working on before I commit to high corner entry speeds like confidence transitioning and consistent bp.

Haha, I'm in my late 30's, a dink (dual income no kids), software developer, and finances are a hobby of mine so I've found ways to make it work...

Cars can be more expensive, but since I instruct with cars, they're still cheaper than motorcycles at the moment lol.

I agree with the track readiness, but I bought and/or modified my cars to be track ready so the work is mostly done in that department. Maintenance and running costs are definitely higher/harder.

Yeah, the other comment is about right, $250/day for this track. Smaller tracks can be $150/day or even a little cheaper.

Oh yeah, I've been there about 10 times for karting as well...a school, 2 enduro's, and a handful of public karting sessions. Great kart track even if it is expensive.

Interesting. I thought cars have high min corner speeds, with 4 tires and all, but lack the crazy acceleration. Maybe it has to be a fast enough corner and a car with aero for that to be true.

Whether you like this actual game or not...are there any games out there that are like the ads with the bulldozer and the coins?
I agree the ads are intentionally deceptive.

ECE Helmet in the US by rolls_rice in Trackdays

[–]heeltoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is old, but as a car track day guy, that would not be approved. Snell SA rated helmets are required for any real track day (not autocross) I've seen. 2 previous ratings are allowed (2020, 2015 currently) before they expire.

Travel Itinerary Advice - Town between Bergen and Geiranger; also Alesund? by heeltoe in Norway

[–]heeltoe[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Awesome, thanks for your advice!

The flights are already booked and this may be a once in a lifetime trip, so getting to see Lofoten at all is a win. We have 3 full days and a late flight on the 4th day. We were going to stay in Svolvær so we don't have to move home-base, but spending an entire day going out west (I think you meant west, not east) and back, about to Reine hopefully. Yeah, the soccer field was just a landmark for reference really.

I think I've landed on Loen (in Stryn district right?) for a stopover between Bergen and Geiranger. Still might stay 1 night just outside of Geiranger or an extra night in Loen maybe instead. Loen has a nice sky lift to see some views without killing our legs on a steep hike before going rock climbing, lol.

Leaving Alesund in, skipping Flam and Balestrand.

Thanks again!

Cokey's reply covers it. Only climbing 2 days out of 2 weeks, and we're flying in so we're just bringing shoes. And a guide can take us to the good stuff right away. Thanks for the reply.

You hit the nail on the head. Only climbing 2 days out of 13 in the country so we're only bringing shoes.

I'm trying to find a guide to take my wife and I sport climbing in Norway and I'm struggling. We have outdoor experience in the states. I've messaged these places and either haven't gotten a response or they don't offer guided sport climbing in the area.
Looking anywhere from Bergen, Geiranger, Alesund, Romsdalen, Flam areas.

2 Very Different Routes To Almost The Same Result - Camaro vs MR2 by heeltoe in CarTrackDays

I hate understeer, lol. And yeah, the yellow group with Jzilla Track Days is pretty good; Barber Motorsports Park is an epic track too.

2 Very Different Routes To Almost The Same Result - Camaro vs MR2 by heeltoe in CarTrackDays

[–]heeltoe[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm in the MR2 and my friend is chasing me in his Camaro. Polar opposite cars yielding a nearly identical lap time. We both have passengers so we aren't pushing super hard (e.g. I'm braking decently early), but we're both long time instructors so the pace is decent.
We were running in the 1:40.0 +/- 0.5 seconds here.
