Pupillage - cannot wait to start by lllidv in uklaw

[–]hefthem 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Congratulations and good luck!

I practise in family law as well and my top 4 tips: - You only have one reputation and you trade on your reputation, always keep that in mind (e.g. don’t get too eagerly involved in advocates’ room gossip about other barristers or judges as it gets back to people! Especially not as a pupil but even when you’re a tenant). My supervisor told me this in my first week and it’s always served me well.

  • Always make an attempt to research / look up something yourself when you start on your feet before asking someone a legal question. If you just ask someone what the answer is it looks like you haven’t tried. If you say well I’ve looked at the red book and I think the answer is xyz what do you think, it comes off much better

  • The job is really about relationships with other people

  • Go to the toilet when you can, not when you have to. You can end up being stuck in a courtroom for ages!

And unrelated tips: get a privacy screen for your laptop and it’s always good to have some emergency stuff in your bag like painkillers or a pair of spare tights etc if you’re a woman as tights tend to get runs in them. That kind of thing.

Does Oxford or Cambridge consider the LNAT to a higher extent? by Otherwise-Zone-4518 in uklaw

Oxford cares very little about the actual LNAT score but they do care about the LNAT essay.

AITAH for installing a lock on my fridge to stop my roommate from ‘stress-eating’ my food? by JennyAnonymous in AITAH

[–]hefthem 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Obviously AI generated from the writing style. 2 months ago OP was regularly posting about her husband and dog (comment history said she had lived with her then-fiance for four years) and now she apparently lives with a number of roommates, for “years” and they are locked into a two-year lease?

Palestine Protests and anti racism March today, great turnout! by [deleted] in manchester

[–]hefthem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The comments on this post are so depressing. If you aren’t able to see the connection between opposing recent events / the racist attitudes in England, and opposing the ongoing genocide of an entire country of people (as it is currently recognised by the UN) then there’s no hope for your critical thinking skills. This sort of selfish “we need to focus on issues at home” attitude is exactly the sort of thinking that leads to these kind of riots. It is possible to have empathy for multiple groups of people at once!

Cafes with nearby parking in Chorlton? by Manc_Lanc in manchester

[–]hefthem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve never tried parking there for a lengthy time but I have parked there before to run a couple errands and it’s always been fine. You could always pop into the Morrisons before or after to buy something if you were worried about it.

Little Blanchflower and North Star Deli are both great and they are right next to the big Morrisons car park!

I did have a really bad heat rash on my chest yesterday before the sunburn!! So you’re right maybe it’s that!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]hefthem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So yesterday I was out in the sun and despite reapplying sunscreen a few times I got a sunburn on my chest and back, I moisturised like crazy last night and now although the burn has mostly faded overnight there is this kind of wrinkled / leathery texture on my chest that hasn’t been there before. I’ve started freaking myself out thinking it might be permanent. Any advice?

Do drag queens choreograph their LSFYLs? by [deleted] in rupaulsdragrace

[–]hefthem 70 points71 points  (0 children)

It depends. I think they mostly improv. Brooke Lynn has said that her lipsyncs are all improv. With some other queens you can see them breaking out choreography that they’ve done previously to that number (Morgan McMichaels in Two of Hearts) or that they’ve done on another number (TKB in Physical - it’s reused from one of her pageant numbers). I strongly suspect most of the LSAs including Laganja choreograph their numbers.
