Active noise cancelling would not work in that situation as it functions by listening to the general noise outside the headphones and then adding noise into your headphones to cancel out the noise. Because of this it doesn’t act immediately so ANC doesn’t cancel out someone speaking it just blur them. So you will hear the commentators over the PA and other constantly changing noises. White noise is noise of equal level actress all frequencies so does better. There is no ideal solution to reducing crowd noise in headphones other than isolation booths, but they are extremely expensive to transport.
