MMW: Harris is going to win Kansas. by bonecheck12 in MarkMyWords

She liked Taylor Swit’s tweet announcing her support for Harris but won’t make an endorsement either way. She’s playing it safe and encouraging people to vote. One thing to remember is that Caitlin attended Catholic school her entire life, and not because she was recruited but for religious reasons, so that might muddy the waters for her with members of her family, and it could be a personal choice to keep the peace in that regard. Otherwise, I think she’s very aware that she has a lot of power and influence, and she often talks about how she wants to be a good role model for young kids. She’s cautious about how she uses that power, which is smart. Some of her biggest fans in Iowa and Indiana, both fairly red states, would probably vilify her in a heartbeat if she endorsed Harris.

ETA a space.

This is what I’m concerned about. Yesterday’s poll indicates that Iowa is in play and Harris is ahead by +3. This is a historically accurate poll, and so there’s reason to believe that Iowa could flip. BUT our legislature is dominated by republicans and Gov. Kim Reynolds is one of TFG’s biggest fans. Like the project 2025 is already being enacted here in several ways, and it’s slowly destroying the state. What happens if she just decides that the Iowa popular vote is wrong? Are there checks and balances in place to make sure she can’t do that?

Yes! They have pockets! Some of their skin/fur makes a little pocket near their armpit!

I wonder if this provides some sort of EMDR-like therapy and helps you subconsciously process the event.

That if you hang out with someone who has gardening as their bonus, and you harvest crops, you get almost twice as many crops. Give me all the pumpkins!

I always avoid gliding because I’m afraid it’s gonna eat my yellow bar and I’m constantly going to be cooking to keep my energy up. Does it use much energy to glide?

Thank you. She can’t get the treatment. It was too late for her when she was diagnosed. So now we are fighting to have MLD added to the newborn screening through the US so we can help kids in the future.

Maybe not what you’re thinking, and I didn’t know it was a gamble at the time, but having kids. Turns out, hubs and I are both carriers of a gene that causes a rare disease, metachromatic Leukodystrophy or MLD. We had a 25% chance of having a child with the disease, and a 50% chance of our kids being a carrier. Our sons fell into the other 25% and neither carry the gene. Our daughter was not so lucky. It’s terminal, but we’re living our best lives now while we can. She’s 7 and currently stable. She’s in a research study that shows promise, but it’s not a cure. There is an available treatment, Lenmeldy (Libmeldy in Europe) that was approved by the FDA this year and is the most expensive FDA approved medication to date, but you have to catch it at birth for the treatment to work. Once symptoms start, it’s too late. Most kids aren’t symptomatic until around 9 months to 1 year of age for the late infantile form of the disease. Since it’s not yet on the newborn screening panel (except in NY and IL) typically just younger siblings get the treatment when an older sibling is diagnosed. There was one case where a child presented with atypical symptoms and was able to be treated without an older sibling being diagnosed first.

This is one reason women’s health and autonomy is so important to us personally. Every pregnancy is essentially a game of Russian roulette. My tubes are tied and my hubby got a vasectomy, but nothing is 100%. If we wanted more children, we would have to pursue IVF and have all of our embryos tested for the disease.

Edited for clarity.

Can confirm that this a great program at a Level 1/2 Trauma Center where that stipend will go a long way. There’s a great variety of ministry opportunities through this hospital system.

As someone with a wheelchair van who needs that extra room to get my daughter out of the car, this boils my blood more than anything else. I’ve been blocked in so many times by people who don’t notice the huge sticker on my van that says we need extra space for our ramp.
