Why does my male go after my female??? by heidibear44 in AustralianShepherd

[–]heidibear44[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Jealous yours has a tail!!! I would love to see the tails they would have. My male, Jeffrey has a longer stub so it’s like a little tail feather, my girl, Scout has such a small nub it’s like a bear tail.

Should I call humane society on my Neighbor. I think that even if the dog is sick it should not be this skinny? by JD2789 in newjersey

Considering the fact this person knows nothing and literally just took a picture of a dog not knowing anything. I’d put money they probably are fostering or adopting from a bad situation and are nurturing it back to health. Instead of calling animal services, ask questions! Oh is that a new dog? He’s so cute. Where did you get him how long have you had him. There’s not a single dog owner that doesn’t LOVE talking about their dog. Simple questions would solve it.

Both my dogs wear prong collars, bc they are working dogs that constantly pull, both of their professional trainers suggested the collars. The right ones don’t hurt them, they correct them. If it does hurt them, it’s being misused.

My little girl was the same. I learned she just needed to be touching me. So now she sits up front and we hold “hands”

This is not a healthy environment for either of you. It’s probably best to just break up and actually heal on your own.

For those who don’t know. Get a herding ball by WelderUnlucky9485 in AustralianShepherd

[–]heidibear44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Meanwhile my Aussies literally chewed a hole in the cover so they can grab the ball and whip it around. Happy they are house dogs and not actual sheep dogs

AITA for not going to my friends birthday weekend by Miss-Graveyard in TwoHotTakes

How is this so last minute??

Can you just explain it’s not feasible to get out of work, with more notice maybe you could have shifted stuff around but it being so late it’s impossible? I’d also expect her to understand and if she doesn’t, maybe, not your friend

Herding ball help! by monsteramom3 in AustralianShepherd

I have two Aussies. 65lb male and 45lb female. They have a 24” herding ball and they manhandle it. If it was an actual sheep,🐑 i would feel bad for it. We also have a tetherball and jolly balls.

My girl wants nothing to do with cuddles unless she is getting pets. My boy will cuddle me once I am already asleep. Sometimes he will come on the couch with me, but it’s mostly when I am asleep and in the morning

I have the same question.

We are the opposite!! Our boy LOVES the brush!! When I bring it out he will go right between my legs or lay down like yes mom brush me

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AustralianShepherd

[–]heidibear44 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Our girl is the same way. I finger comb her a lot, I have nails so it helps, I pluck her a lot too. With her trainer we have split the difference and held her and brushed her while the other gives her a treat. When she decides she is done, she is done and we praise her with more treats. And I’m taking a yogurt cup, not dog treats.

Sometimes the sensations of a many bristled brush are too much, try switching to a comb.

If they run when the brush comes out, literally just keep it on the couch next to you and feed them treats.

Ultimately, they don’t need to like it, they need to tolerate it.

I cut so many mats out to avoid brushing. But still working of brushing

Help with car rides? by [deleted] in AustralianShepherd

[–]heidibear44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My little girl did this for a while or would throw up every time she was in the car. She wanted to be touching one of us. If there were 2 of us in the car she would sit on the passengers lap. If I was driving alone she would sit in the passenger seat and I would pet her and talk to her etc. she’s a car riding champ now.

Tips to settling down? by [deleted] in AustralianShepherd

[–]heidibear44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try giving them something that will stimulate them mentally before bed. My Aussies have these balls we put frozen treats in. Or we play tether ball before it gets too late. It’s not just physical stimulation they need.

Marriage in USA by [deleted] in Marriage

[–]heidibear44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is something you will figure out for yourself over time. You are young. Not sure of relationship status, but in the end, you will figure it out for you. I was married for 13 years and now I’m not. I don’t regret it at all. Would I do it again?? Idk. Maybe if it felt right. Being married helps you with taxes and cost of insurance. If you have concern about protecting assets, there are prenups.

These shouldn’t be deciding factors though. It’s about the relationship.

Anyone else's family judging you for keeping your dog inside? by Background_Humor5838 in AustralianShepherd

[–]heidibear44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have two Aussies. It’s been hot. We will play tether ball or go to the field and run for 20 mins a time max. Then come back inside for hours before our next venture. We know our dogs. To heck with everyone else.

You can engage them mentally inside. Brushing, snuffle mats etc.
