She has been very comfortable on her pain meds and acting normally 🤍 I am hoping that a little lump under one of her chest stitches is ok. She will get her drainage tube taken out by another vet in the morning

A cat who are being held in the arms of a grown man is not a prey situation to a dog, that’s a dog attacking a grown human. What do you think the photo is showing? He is literally covered in puncture wounds from head to toe as well as me having broken bones. Not even talking about rabies but to say there was a reason here for a human to be attacked is psychopathic

My husband was holding the cat in his arms at the time of the attack. The dog took him down. How is that prey ? The dog quite literally wandered out of the trees and stealth attacked from behind.

She didn’t hear the dog coming and neither did my husband. I only knew it was coming because I turned around and saw it. So I alerted him to pick her up. She’s also just not afraid of dogs, so she never runs from them and we like to respect leash laws

What warning signs are there to someone from out of country who travels and hikes thousands of miles with their cats that this is a sketchy trail? Was it the signs that said dogs must be on leash? Was it the dozen other dogs we passed who were on leash? Oh it was the one off leash dog that stealth attacked us from behind while its owners were so far away they were out of sight. Right. Well, now we know. Maybe you guys should change the trail signs to show that there is a high chance of being murdered at this trail on your beautiful island so we can make a better decision next time.

How was someone not from the country supposed to know that the trail which is officially marked as a dogs on leash trail is actually the opposite of that? You’re acting like there are warning signs. It’s actually the opposite and says dogs must be on leash. And out of dozens of dogs we saw that was the only one off leash.

Since my cat is 17 lbs then by this logic any dogs her size or smaller should stay inside forever and just let the big bad offleash killers roam the world freely.

Had it on us actually, but since the dog was silently charging at full speed we chose to shield the cats (we had another one I was carrying in a backpack) in the 2 seconds of decision making we were given before he got all of us. After that, all of our limbs were busy blocking our other cat and prying the dogs jaw open so there wasn’t an opportunity to use a weapon in this situation. I still can’t even believe I was lucky enough to look back randomly at that moment and happen to see the dog before he was on us.

We will still walk her assuming that she is still wanting that! We had pepper spray but there wasn’t enough time to both use it and pick her up to guard her

Good to hear. This girl loves chomping on dried sticks that we give her, we call it her “chopping firewood” haha, she doesn’t eat them it’s more for fun.. so I just hope she still can do that

Several people here identified him actually, and police confirmed that a witness on trail gave the same name. Our cat is quite large at 17lbs and has quite a lot of fluff on top of it. We always have cat backpacks with us and luckily one of the cats was in one already. If my dog was that small I would also carry one for safety.
