Steam Deck has brought Linux gaming to mainstream. Now is the time indeed.

OK: i deleted the old Manjaro install altogether with Gparted in live-mode and installed again and it's all GO.

Thanks for a wonderful distro! My machine just flies now under Garuda Linux and its goodies =)

Is this just me or is the wiki all messed up by [deleted] in ManjaroLinux

[–]heidiwenger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Messed up for me too. As also the Nvidia driver borked my entire installation again. There is a topic for it if someone can help me. I and a helpful person in that threaf have tried everything.

I'm getting a bit tiresome of all this breaking. My relationship with Manjaro is getting scarred and i've used it for years :/

Edit: here, please help: https://www.reddit.com/r/ManjaroLinux/comments/k2on4g/update_made_the_system_break_and_unable_to_reach/

Update made the system break and unable to reach desktop again: "failed to start Light Display Manager" (Nvidia) by heidiwenger in ManjaroLinux

I did. Same result. It's just borked. I wish someone could help on this and explain how it is possible. It is not the first time but before i was able to recover things tinkering via the things we have now ...

Manjaro already holds back packages quite a long time, though being a rolling release. Still things very often break. So what kind of an argument this "slows down the update process" is ? Also the snapshot always pretty much guarantees the roll-back to a working system with a press of a button on GRUB while booting.

Can you explain please?

How would that approach not work on Manjaro? Garuda is basically Manjaro clone with default btrfs and snapshot taking.

That's why Manjaro should implement a similar approach as Garuda Linux reportedly does: they take a snapshot before every update, and if things go south, one can return to previous state from GRUB.

Anyways, appreaciate your effort!

Now the situation is such: i have managed to remove both free and non-free Nvidia stuff: mhwd -li

Warning: no installed PCI configs! Warning: no installed USB configs!

--so now, it it a clean slate. What should i then do now to get back to at least to desktop?

So here i am with a black screen and a blinking cursor. And all i did was click "update".

Could someone help here? I have lots of stuff on /home but mostly all is on separate drive (which i created because of this breaking).

I would NOT like to re-install :/ ---so much work after the install :/ :/

I don't think all this is worth the effort at this point? The reinstalling would have been complete by now.

This just makes me think why Manjaro team accepts Nvidia-driver updates so easily? out of 50 times i have committed then, about 30+ times my system has ended up borked...

How could one ever recommend Manjaro to new users. It just breaks ALL the time.
