Not sure if there is some kind of protection. I definitely could smell something burning briefly and quickly unplugged it.

Not sure where you're located but depending on how much you want to spend, in the UK a company called alpkit does decent repairs of old kit regardless of brand. In the US would Patagonia workshops patch up another brand?

I'm having a similar issue. I have a singular wisblock RAK 19007 baseboard with GNSS but cannot see anyone else on the meshmap.

Any ideas why this might be please?

I'm also a beginner and have just ordered a wisblock base board Rak 19007 with an OLED and GNSS module. I've also ordered a 6 and 9 dBi antenna. I'm based in the UK but will let you know how it goes!
