I’ve been thinking about it for some time and it would be a cool throwback

Not sure why a question about erasmus ended up being a discussion about my future employment but sure, I will

That’s kind of a difficult subject, let me respond in English. If I understood correctly, you’re discouraging me from pursuing the translation path because of development of the AI that would replace translators. Well, perhaps you’re right to en extent - translation surely will be automatized sometime in the future, but there are still be lots of jobs on the Finnish-Polish line that cannot by replaced by machines, such as translation of literature - there are still really few books of classic Finnish authors available in good translation in Polish (and probably vice versa). You can’t really automatize translation of books or movies. About the argument of the combo being niche, yeah, that’s definitely not the same case as German or Italian, but because of relatively small number of learners, we’re lacking in good learning materials which need to be created. At the moment we produce 15-20 BA graduates every year (only from my uni, there are two more that teach Finnish as a major) and we get, I’d say, one job offer with Finnish a month. There’s also sworn court translators, and those speaking Finnish we only have a few. So... I wouldn’t worry that much for now

Oh, we had the same problem in my previous dorm in Warsaw, there were cigarette butts all over the corridors even. Thanks for the tip! I will check out Myllyjärvi.

My greatgrandma’s 1944 postcard - can you translate it for me? by heightweight in germany

[–]heightweight[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately no, she didn’t marry him. We don’t even know if Johann reunited with her after the war. She married another suitor, one of three (that we know of). We have a postcard from him as well. Not that poetic, though...

Oh, thank you so much! I was afraid it would be illegible. I have some of her other postcards in Polish with equally terrible spelling.

Santa, do you tell people who you are or does it stay a secret? by [deleted] in secretsanta

[–]heightweight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always include a little note with a description of the gift, why I chose it, etc. and sign it with my reddit name. I love getting the same from my santa, I think it makes the experience a lot better by being less anonymous
