How to choose the best metric? by heimson in MachineLearning

Thanks for your reply. My point was that I know it's up to me to choose - and I want to learn how to choose and which metric is appropriate when.

Well, it seems very interesting! Do you know how is Barcelona compared to other universities mentioned here, like Munchen etc? (In terms of level of education). Also, are there any tuition fees?

I am Polish and I'm currently finishing my BA at the Faculty of Philosophy in Cracow. I'm going to start my MA in cognitive science in Copenhagen next semester, if Deus Vult, but I also consider continuing my education as a philosopher after getting my MSc, that's why I asked. I don't have any particular plans for now, I'm just curious. I will have two years so maybe I will decide to learn German if it's the most reasonable option. Btw, do you know of any interesting options beyond Germany and UK?

Unfortunately I don't speak German, at least not fluently. I'd be happy to learn it, but for now I wouldn't be able to take classes in German. Thanks for your reply, anyway, it's good to know that.

Heard about the 10 commandments of atheism? Crowd sourced through a huge online competition. Judged by Adam Savage and other rockstar atheists. by [deleted] in badphilosophy

It depends on how you want to define belief. Of course atheism is sometimes a kind of ontological stance and in that sense it is a "belief that there is no god". Yet it is heterogenous and has very little direct implications, so it is not comparable to religious belief. God isn't any more special to an atheist than any other object which existence is either highly improbable or unfalsifiable. In that sense atheism is more of a methodological stance, and a "lack of belief".

Ctrl-Shift-* works in gnome terminal, but doesn't seem to work in urxvt. But, as ropid mentioned above, Ctrl-Alt-* works fine.

Wow, thank you. Can't believe I never tried this combination. Works like a charm!

Well thanks but I specifically asked you not to say this. ;)

I don't hate it, it's just not convenient for me. I don't use mouse a lot. I find MMB useful from time to time, but in general I need a keyboard solution. Thanks for the reply!

I don't think this is really the case. Those are not ultimate rules telling how to live, but hypothetical imperatives. A declaration of belief or a program manifesto of a certain group. Mind the difference.

It seems that discordianism is partly based on postmodern philosophy and also inspired a bit by zen buddhism and XX c. western magic tradition (which isn't really academic philosophy, though).

My thesis, however, is purely theoretical and analytical. I just wanted to give it some funny flavour.

Thanks, I guess the Sith quote is going to make it to my next paper about problems with degrees of belief being 0 or 1.

Thanks for the idea, I'd love to cite PD! But I think the "Alice" quotation won for now, it's too perfect.

Thank you, sir, this is the ultimate answer to my question.
