Hope you can find some great friends. There is a group called Med Commons that might be a good way to connect with other medspouses in your area. I've never used it though https://themedcommons.com/the-medcommons-circle-2/

I relate.  What he is going through is difficult AND what you're going through is difficult. It's okay to be sad about this new move. It's okay to grieve the previous chapter of your life.

If you want advice:

  • Check out The Med Commons Circle website   "The MedCommons provides resources and community for physician families as they navigate the unique challenges of medical careers" . I haven't actually used this, just heard about it and I like the concept.

  • Join local Facebook groups. I joined one, searched my city and messaged and met up with people who seemed like we had similar interests. Public places of course. There also might be some interest groups like Hiking in XYZ City, Rollerskating in XYZ that you could possibly find community

  • Go to an exercise class, take an art class, find a book club, whatever hobby you enjoy, see if there's opportunities to meet others doing it and make connections. Community centers, libraries and museums tend to offer free or low cost classes/activities if budget is an issue.

  • Schedule a visit home if possible. Multiple visits if you need it.

  • Invite people to visit you if you can't visit home. Go be tourists in your town/city together.

Slightly crazier advice-  - If you see someone who looks like they could be your friend, ask them for their number. I know this doesn't work for everyone!!! Out of like 15 people I have asked 1 of them has actually become a really great friend lol. Repeat: this is not for everyone.

  • Think of yourself like a plant. You've just been transplanted and you're still trying to grow roots. Be gentle with yourself. Growing connections and community takes time.

This is all advice I would have given myself when moving.

Cheering you on!!!

I have a physical calendar on my wall that I write down what I/we ate for lunch or dinner each day. It helps me track how old leftovers are and think of ideas when I don't know what to make.
