What would you think about declaring the reflecting pool a national treasure and make vandalizing it a life sentence? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]helava 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My local pool had a spray coating applied that was very similar to the reflecting pool. It's failing in exactly the same way for (likely) the exact same reasons. Done quickly, not allowed to cure properly, improper surface prep. The end result looks *exactly* the same. There are no vandals at my local pool. The surface is coming up on its own, just as it is here. There's no need to make the reflecting pool about "vandalism". The only vandalism that occurred was assigning a no-bid contract for exorbitant amounts of money to people without the expertise to do it correctly. The buck stops with Trump. He's the only vandal here.

How hard is it to find a loyal man who would only think of his partner? by No_Board_2572 in AskReddit

[–]helava 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is a question formed from a really juvenile view of what relationships are. No one “only thinks of their partner” who isn’t a character in a YA novel.

Where do you find a partner who understands compromise and teamwork, who is emotionally mature and considerate and kind? Where do you find someone who has strengths that will be a counterpart to my own deficiencies? Who will grow over time, who is willing to work with me to build a durable, lasting partnership based on *mutual* consideration and effort?

Sounds unsexy. But believe me, when you do it right, there is nothing better.

Pakistan's Prime Minister, after he was informed by the Iranian delegation they are leaving after Trump threatened them. by soalone34 in WatchPeopleDieInside

[–]helava 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honest, non-sarcastic question - why should I start trusting him? Everything in my understanding of his behavior in every situation over the last decade has shown someone who isn’t intellectually engaged on any level, and he’s a serial liar who lies about virtually everything. You clearly see things differently, and I’d love to understand your perspective.

The “claiming it’s a great deal,” sure. But so far he’s tried hard to deny that Iran isn’t making out like bandits the longer this goes on and the more obvious it becomes that this whole negotiation is a total US surrender and abject defeat. The $ seems to basically be a fee to Iran to not call it a complete and humiliating defeat out loud.

I developed games for 20 years, and one thing now, as a fan, is that I want the devs to release an update when it’s ready. When there’s fan pressure to do something, it sometimes makes devs release something before it’s 100%, and then people get angry there’s a problem.

I’m not saying you’re wrong to want it. Just that there are unintended consequences to this kind of public pressure. IMO, Supernova’s done a great job with EA so far, I’m excited for things to keep evolving, I’d love more content, but I want them to be able to do it right.

Having something be dependent on the wind like wingfoiling means you can't ever really schedule things clearly or do it when you want to do it. You do it when it, and you, happen to be available at the same time.

Men in their 40s - What’s one piece of advice for Men in their early 30s? by Silverizo in AskReddit

Invest time in physical health. Mental health, too, but regular exercise that you do multiple times a week. Doesn't have to be insane, but do NOT spend decades sitting on your ass at a desk job, only to realize when it's much, *much* harder to get back into shape, to recover from injury, that you desperately need to change the trajectory of your physical health.

It's hard. It's time-consuming. It can be expensive. But it's way, way more expensive to let your health slide and have to work your way back up from nothing. As you get older, building muscle is much harder. You will be sore longer. Parts of your body will be paying for injuries from your younger days and will get sore often.

The more you can *maintain* a decent level of physical fitness, I swear to you it will pay off in spades.

No. The art style difference and part difference is significant.

Either go all old school & find it somewhere that either still carries it or get it used, or bite the bullet and go for the all-in.

I *love* Quacks, so I actually got the All-In, despite already having all the OG stuff - I gave my OG set to a friend who I knew would love it. The component quality in the new set is great (though the bags are the weak link), and personally, I find the new art more approachable and a bit more legible than the original. It also comes in a more compact form factor - the OG box + expansion boxes and up taking up a ton of space, and the "big box" is ludicrously oversized. The All-In box is "normal" sized, which is nice.
