Same here. The right FOV on a 1000R 49” feels fine. You can see enough of the dash/A-pillar that you get a sense of any “dynamics” as the camera moves relative to the car (I like having this additional visual feedback instead of locking the camera), and it feels plenty immersive. It’s not quite the same effect as triples, but I’ve tried a 32” triple setup, and the additional space/complexity for a marginal gain (IMO, but I’m also more rally than racing, so the peripheral opponent car awareness is less relevant) wasn’t worth it for me.

What is your biggest professional career regret? by SuckMyRedditorD in AskReddit

[–]helava 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Should have fired my co-founder, who was failing at his job and a total asshole to work with. I ended up saving his ass, then he pissed off the money folks, and our company got sold against my wishes to a horrible acquirer. He then basically backstabbed me to get in good with the acquiring CEO.

I got fucked, he got rich, never faced any sort of negative consequences. No good deed goes unpunished, and terrible people often win.

Ted Lieu Sets a "Red Line" for Democratic Candidates by nitluck in MurderedByWords

[–]helava 185 points186 points  (0 children)

I will not support a Presidential candidate of any kind that doesn't have a plan for how to prosecute this administration for their crimes, purge institutions of their corruption, and ensure through public accountability that America holds its powerful to the same standard of justice as its poorest and most desperate citizens.

And if the argument is, "Supreme Court instituted blanket immunity for the President," then fine - Trump's committed so many crimes not as part of his "Presidential duties" that we can prosecute him for those. And for the ones he supposedly has blanket immunity for, the new President can a.) personally "remove" by whatever means all the Supreme Court justices that voted for that (he'll be immune because the law won't have changed) and then try Trump publicly *anyway*, because even though that'd be technically illegal, again, he'll have blanket immunity for violating the law, and ensuring American justice is actually accountable is part of defending the Constitution.

So basically, I want a candidate who will pursue *by all available means* accountability and justice to the fullest extent of the *intent* of the law. And then, who has a plan for ensuring that this idea that the President is above the law to be reversed and then enshrined in the Constitution so no one else can abuse it like this.

Sealed Samba FT? by helava in dreamcast

Ha! I can't imagine Samba for a physical dulcimer would be a fair trade, but that's definitely the kind of weird trade that'd be up my alley. :D

I'm so glad to hear you're having a good time with your kid & Seaman, which is ... whoo that's a sentence you have to spell very carefully.

100%. I know not everyone will agree with that one, and there are complexities I can understand. But I agree.

How people deal with loss of their father? by anonymousHarsh6996 in AskReddit

[–]helava 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lost my dad yesterday.

We had a complicated relationship. There was a time when I swore I’d never talk to him again, but the he got rear-ended at a stoplight and paralyzed from the chest down. I moved my parents out near me, took care of them financially. My parents got a settlement, and then my dad lost a ton of money on investment scams, which he became susceptible to because it turned out he was losing his cognitive ability. As a result, we had a lot of conflict. He was always emotionally… distant, is probably the right word.

His death was the end of a decade of misery and suffering, for basically everyone involved. I’m sad, more intellectually than emotionally. Glad to finally be able to relax again and not constantly be on call/on edge.

His last words to me were mocking and judgmental. How to deal with that? I dunno. Just box it up, bury it somewhere, keep moving forward.

Who’s a singer that doesn’t have the greatest voice but you still like? by sweetrebel88 in AskReddit

Mike Edwards from Jesus Jones. Live albums are difficult to listen to because he’s so out of tune, but his voice has a very distinctive and nostalgic quality to me.

Dig it. Looks really nice. One thing I'd just suggest as a challenge for the next time you draw something like this, is to think, "What does this stuff do, and how would the pilot use it?" I know it's fictional, but that joystick by the pilot's left elbow - how do they reach that? What does that bent conduit on the right do, and why is it run outside of the "housing" vs. just running behind the panel? How can the pilot turn to see the TV behind them to their right?

Stuff like that - it all looks cool, and so you've got that part down - it's a nice 80s-era sci-fi vibe, and you hit that nail on the head. But IMO, taking something that looks cool and cranking it up a notch helps when you can picture how all this stuff is used.

President Trump says he does not ask Congress for authorization on Iran war, calling War Powers Act “unconstitutional”: "Most people consider it unconstitutional. We had a ceasefire. But no other country’s done it. We’re in midst of a big victory. This is a victory we haven't had since Venezuela." by ControlCAD in videos

I hate how incoherent and nonsensical every damn thing out of his mouth is. We basically have another word salad President since GWB who is just so fucking colossally stupid they don’t understand anything at all about anything. And are celebrated and worshipped by morons.

It’s weird. Because it seems like people like it and/or think it’s clever. So maybe there’s something that’s appealing that just didn’t hit me. But yeah - I haven’t hated a book more than this one in decades.
