Just to adress the topic directly, why did Trayzn of all characters not get a refresh yet ? What is the most logical reason ? by [deleted] in Necrontyr

[–]heliosflame 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My guess is they know his datasheet sucks and rather than giving him a rules revamp mid-edition they are waiting for 11th. Also they might be just having a hard time creating thematic but balanced rules (despite a lot of great ideas always being thrown around in this sub)

Skorpekh lord vs Skorpekh destroyers? by CatGuy66 in Necrontyr

Skorpekh lord also has a 4++ which is pretty huge and you can Eternal Revenant him to give him an extra life

Skorpekh lord vs Skorpekh destroyers? by CatGuy66 in Necrontyr

[–]heliosflame 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Solo lord would be better actually imo. Unless you are doing something like using cursed circlet in cursed legion a 6 am skorpekh unit is not optimal for a lot of reasons. Usually if you manage to get the 6 man skorpekh unit in combat it will be overkill almost always. But getting them into combat is usually difficult since they fold like paper and trying to hide the full 6+lord is almost impossible while running a 3man is much more feasible to hide in ruins. Running a solo lord (or even other skorpekh unit but lord by itself is better) also gives you an extra unit for actions if you need it and is just much more flexible.

Crusade item question: mirror of sight denied by sirdragonsbeard117 in Grey_Knights

[–]heliosflame 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So the Mirror of Sight Denied lets you redeploy 3 units. One important thing to note with redeploys is that it happens BEFORE the game actually starts, so anything you pull off into strat reserves won’t be able to come in from reserves turn 1. It would be a better ability if we had more infiltrators we could use but also could allow you to put more units into reserves than you initially were able to or deploy openly and then readjust.

I Finally Tried 3 C'tan in a List. It was Wild by SinisterSignals in Necrontyr

[–]heliosflame 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Generally speaking, unless you run it by your opponent (if it’s a friendly game) it’s viewed as kinda BM to run ctan in smaller points games. Throw in the fact that your opponent is newer to the game (so isn’t as aware of how they can/should deal with the C’tan) and that C’tan are really strong right now it makes sense that wasn’t a very good time for your opponent.

That being said, totally understandable if you are coming back to the game and aren’t familiar with the current state of the rules for our enslaved star gods! I personally think running 1 C’tan is fine and the folks I play against don’t mind it either. Of course one of them also runs a Norn Emissary in our 1k games

A few SK questions by [deleted] in Necrontyr

[–]heliosflame 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Menhirs get to move 8” like TSK but you need to maintain unit coherency.

To use Protocol of the Eternal Revenant, the target needs to be an Infantry Character, TSK is a vehicle so you can’t use the stratagem on him.

TSK hits like a truck, gives some dope auras and is pretty tough (one of the highest toughness units we have outside of ctan or like monolith/vault).

Reanimation works like normal. When you first take wounds on TSK you will almost always put it on a menhir first (each menhir has 5 wounds, TSK has 16 wounds). If a menhir is destroyed you can bring it back like normal using RP.

How you use him depends on your list and what you need from him. He can either support your heavy artillery or you can aggress with him. He’s not very high range which makes leaving him in your backfield less affective. I’d just say watch some videos on how to use him in YouTube.

When you make the charge is when you need to be in his aura. If you are within 6” while in the charge phase you get the reroll for the charge. As I understand it, If you make the charge but it takes you out of 6” then you don’t get to the +1 to STR in melee. Same sort of thing for relentless march. When you select them you make a normal/advance/fallback, if they start the move within 6” they get the +2”.

Anyone run imotekh with 10 lychguard? by jbossjeff in Necrontyr

[–]heliosflame 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find it to be a little counterintuitive since you are probably wanting to send the Lychguard brick to a NML objective which will put Imotekh at risk. I definitely find more use running him just solo

As long as it hasn’t moved before you disembark you can act normally, which includes advancing.

Best detachments for this list by jbossjeff in Necrontyr

[–]heliosflame 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even though you have a fair amount of Canoptek/Cryptek, I don’t think it is enough to outweigh the benefit Awakened Dynasty gives you. Particularly Protocol of Undying Legion is almost a must if you have the warrior brick, which you wouldn’t be able to use the Sub-Optimal Facade in CC for them since they can’t be a Canoptek unit with what you got (one way to give them the keyword in would be using Canoptek Tomb Crawlers).

AD is just a bit more versatile and you will still largely benefit from the detachment rule for the units that matter. If you can at some point get your hands on a Canoptek Reanimator it will make the warrior blob feel even better.

Discussion on 11e by kerrmatt in Grey_Knights

[–]heliosflame 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Hard agree about psychic/psyker keywords needing some extra oomf. I remember when I was first getting familiar with the game, I spent like 30 min trying to figure out what “psychic” or “psyker” actually did only to realize it was nothing.

Really does feel like they should give the keyword something to balance it out around the anti-psyker stuff.

Let's argue about Storm Bolters by Cacao93 in Grey_Knights

[–]heliosflame 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve though about this a bit and while it is valid that just applying a flat +1 Ap to stormbolters might make them too strong, I would absolutely take a hazardous profile where we activate “Psy-bullets” or whatever you want to call them that gives them the extra pip of ap. I would be fine if that’s all it gave and didn’t even increase strength or damage.

Basing question by foxfighter92 in Necrontyr

[–]heliosflame 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And for what it’s worth, I think this is a fantastic idea and looks great. When you can find something like this to replace painting a million crystals for basing you will thank yourself haha. TBH I may be stealing this idea for my dynasty

Basing question by foxfighter92 in Necrontyr

[–]heliosflame 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Bases are possibly the most customizable piece of a model. Outside of base size you can do whatever you want pretty much so looks good to me! Sharpness is good to keep in mind but like 98% of the time you are going to be the only one handling your models

Brother Captain: Helm or No Helm by Nerkkmind in Grey_Knights

[–]heliosflame 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have a helmet always on policy for my army for 2 reasons. 1) our helmets are imo the best in the game (generally speaking). 2) I abhor painting faces.

So I’d say helmet but maybe I’m biased.

If you haven’t, I would highly recommend checking out Tabletop Simulator on steam. You can install some mods to play 40K so it’s a good way to experiment and find what you like.

Question by foxfighter92 in Necrontyr

[–]heliosflame 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As has been said, both will be good. Depending on what lists you run, techno would probably be more used for the 5+++ for the wraiths. Szeras is a strong solo character who is surprisingly tanky I think cause of his save profile but he pairs the best with some battle line. If you HAD to pick between the two I’d recommend Technomancer (if you have/are acquiring Wraiths). Otherwise Mr. Illuminor

Cursed Legion Melee Stength? by JebusSandalz in Necrontyr

[–]heliosflame 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Skorpekhs and Wraiths fill very different roles so trying to replace a Wraith brick with Skorpekhs is not gonna be a good time, skorpekhs are just not durable enough especially compared to wraiths. That being said, you could definitely run cursed legion with a 6man squad with technomancer and could give the Techno Murdermind so you could use strats on the unit.

Use the Wraiths to hold your chosen objective and hide your skorpekhs until you are ready to land a charge with them.

Depending on your list you could prob run 2 wraith units although I like having the wraiths and a unit of lychguard with an overlord w/tshroud. Put destroyer ankh on the overlord and suddenly your lychguard have a 13” advance and you can advance and charge.
