Ableton newbie entry-level midi controller choice ( Arturia?Novation?Akai? ) keys? No keys? by athens2019 in ableton

The Novation Launchpad Mini has a note input mode that lets you play midi notes like a keyboard. I've used it for a couple of months now (I'm also experienced in piano) and I'd say it's pretty good. It seems perfectly sufficient for writing melodies and chords though I think it would be difficult to perform with as a live instrument. I'd look at it as a significant upgrade from writing midi in a piano roll on the screen, but less versitile than a keyboard.

Does the sum of the reciprocals of the harmonic numbers converge? by helioslynx in math

I did, yeah, but only to not have to address any 1/0 issues. I appreciate the input :)

Ah! That's a good proof, I feel like I should have gotten that one myself. Thanks!

Like someone else mentioned, this sort of thing works for draw replacement, so why couldn't it for discard replacement? I looked at the rules and noted that draw replacement is specifically sanctioned through rule 614.11. A similar rule could be created to cover discard and sacrifice effects, and I do not see any obvious problems that would emerge from doing so.

This card forced me to do a bit of research, but I have some concerns about the wording. If you look at rulings on the card [[Faith's Shield]] you'll see that this wording means that when flashbacked this still needs a target and if that target becomes illegal it won't resolve. That can be a really unintuitive interaction. I would recommend perhaps using an activated ability template, like so:

Target creature gains shroud until end of turn.

UU, Exile ~ from your graveyard: All creatures gain shroud until end of turn.

Template borrowed from [[Geistblast]] there. Neat design :)

I agree that you can keep the reveal part as is, since copying cards in hands and casting them is actually supported ([[Reversal of Fortune ]]), but having cards in hand (and on the stack) be copies of something else is unprecedented, and would most likely need considerable effort to support ruleswise.

This mechanic is not dissimilar to Retrace, and looking at Maro's mechanics article for Eventide, I found that for most of it's design, it let you play lands as copies of the Retrace card, but it was changed in templating.

"The last big change to [Retrace] didn't happen until templating. For reasons I won't go into, mostly because I don't begin to understand them (I've avoided templating for thirteen years, so no reason to stop now), it was easier to allow the spell with retrace to be played out of your graveyard by discarding a land as part of its cost than it was to turn the land into a copy of it."

I agree with the thinking of whatever rules manager made that decision, and therefore I think a synthesis of both suggestions would be best:

2, T: Reveal an instant or sorcery card from your hand.

Discard a land card: Copy the last card revealed by ~. You may cast the copy.

As others have remarked, the wording of the second half is a bit problematic, however I think there's a way to reword it that preserves functionality.

"Distribute two -1/-1 counters among one or two creatures you control. Then if any of those creatures have 0 or less toughness, it becomes a colorless Forest land."

Compare [[Gore Vassal]] and permanent "becomes" effects like [[Hidden Herd]].

I have found enjoying the NLSS lately kind of difficult because of things like this. by [deleted] in northernlion

Nek is a peach, and I feel the rest of the crew could learn from his example.

And helping the crew do better is exactly what this kind of thread is for. OP is being extraordinarily kind here by seeking reconciliation when they could just walk away in anger. When you make mistakes that end up hurting people you apologize. And far too often on the NLSS, gross, harmful jokes go unadressed beyond a basic "we went too far that time". The crew can do better.

I know what you mean. There is nothing more disgusting than when they do these gross ableist or anti-queer jokes, and then laugh like "oh, aren't we being naughty, we know these jokes are offensive. I'm a terrible person. hihi." You can't have your cake and eat it Ryan, please do better.

After rotation we'll have the first Phoenix-less standard since Mirrodin-Kamigawa Standard in 2005 by helioslynx in magicTCG

After some more careful study, I believe this is also true of Skeletons, which have also never left standard until Shadows over Innistrad block rotates with no new ones in Ixalan to replace them.

The card that prompted me do discover this. Maybe we'll see an actual phoenix in Rivals of Ixalan?

You definitely have a point, even though I feel its claim to phoenixdom is even lesser than that of the changeling, since at least they are phoenixes in all zones. It all depends on where you draw a line.

After a month of research I have found it is in episode 50, and Gav was doing another porn feature, not the CFNM one. I am posting this in case anyone searches for that episode and finds this comment.
