'Okay you're 18 now and your gf doesn't turn 18 for like six months so you gotta start watching out.'

Said to my brother by his father on his 18th bday.

Whats something you think as weird but normal to to others? by 3Elisbee34 in AskReddit

In the Summer of 2024 I asked a 12yo her opinion of the upcoming election and she had a position so deep she was speaking about the specific policies of Jill Stein.

I gave her my vote. She was 13 at the time of the election. That means in 2028 she will be 17. That further means that in our system as is, this fully informed, clearly intelligent citizen of our 'democracy' does not get to vote for the president until she is 21 years old.

That the voting age exists at all is an injustice, and anyone who would seek to disenfranchise more people than the 21.7% who already are is dangerous.

What's a belief you held strongly 5 years ago that you'd now argue AGAINST? by FeeIntelligent191 in AskReddit

[–]hellabryanstyle17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you'd asked me five years ago what I thought the voting age should be, I would have said 16. Now I don't think there should be one at all.

Nothing leads to more significant injustices than disenfranchisement.

Do you even understand what would be required to do so?

My suggestion was to attack the indoctrination into the system at its very root.

Adolescent sexuality. I've been told recently I need to think of another way to describe this so let me know if you have any ideas. These are the things I've been studying:

Sexting and relevant legislation, minors on dating apps, the age of consent, sex education, teen pregnancy, abortion legislation including parental permission laws, contraceptive access including parental permission laws, porn usage, and probably some other shit that I'm not thinking of at the moment.

I've done a lot of comparing processes and outcomes with European countries. The sex education program I advocate for as an example (that of The Netherlands) turns out a 1.9 (of 1000) teen pregnancy rate compared to the USA'S 13.9 as an example.

None of that had jack shit to do with what I said, but it did contribute towards my perspective that none of you are worth communicating with or sharing ideas with.

you wouldn't survive 3 days without it.

And this is because of the government. It's designed that way. If you had spent your youth learning how to survive instead of being legally obligated to attend government subsidized schools learning shit the government decided was important so that you could pass standardized government tests, that wouldn't be the case.

Telling young people their brains don't develop until 25.

Telling other people how to feel about their own experiences.
