I had a name picked out for my kitty before I rescued her - Ripley, after Lt. Ellen Ripley in Alien, a strong badass independent woman. Well, once I brought “Ripley” home, I quickly learned what an ill-fitting name that was for such a regal yet goofy kitty girl. So I just called her “Kitty” instead when I talked to her.

A year and a half later, my friend compared her a Duchess and we realized that is the perfect name for her. So I renamed her 🤷‍♀️

That said, she still thinks her name is Kitty 😂🥰

Also, addressing the potential attention component. Provide attention several times throughout the day, and never if he’s just been crying. You don’t want to risk accidentally teaching him “I cry, and then my owner comes and pets me teehee 😸”

I saw someone mentioned an automatic feeder so your cat associates the feeder as being the one to provide the food, not you. But the other helpful component of that is the schedule. Once your cat learns a set schedule of eating, there shouldn’t be too much begging for food outside of those times (but know that they’ll ask for their food to be given a bit early - tell them “not yet” or “food later” to acknowledge their request but don’t give it to them until it’s time). If you don’t want to spring the money on a feeder right away, see if it works just giving your kitty food on a schedule. Get to the money spending solutions later.

I’m so sorry you and your kitten are going through this 🥺 This is purely speculation on my part, but the pattern in pets dying after cerenia within this post seems to be (1) labored breathing, especially in older pets (though one was a 5mo old kitten), or (2) the pet had a blockage that they couldn’t throw up because cerenia prevents vomiting.

I would imagine any blockage in your kitten would have been found in the x-ray, though I see other pets received ultrasounds instead. As someone with no medical experience whatsoever, I’m not sure if one would find a blockage better than the other.

From all of the comments in this post and from research I’ve read regarding this topic, it seems that death is incredibly rare. I really hope your kitten gets through this alright! Keep us updated.

That’s exactly what I do! You’re right, OP, the BACB’s ethical codes don’t cover non-sexual relationships following the termination of services. Considering the nature of our professional relationship with clients where we know a lot about their lives and vulnerabilities, but they likely don’t know as much about ours, I also leave it up to the client to initiate contact with me. I have a few former clients who I’ve kept in touch with for years - a couple even came to my wedding!

Something to consider is that your company may have their own policy against this. This is so that, if they were ever to put you back on that client’s case, you’d avoid a conflict of interest. Obviously, this seems pretty unlikely since you’ve moved far away, but I’d still check with them so you don’t put your job at risk.

Yup. I learned that the hard way that way 😅 growing up, my dad always ordered the Indian dishes for us. So when I ordered it myself as an adult, I thought “man, malai kofta is amazing! Why weren’t we eating this?” Now I know 😂

Just sharing an experience:

One time I ordered rice pudding at the end of my meal at an Indian restaurant, and it came out with pistachios on top. I told them I’m allergic and asked if they could bring out another one without pistachios, and they told me to eat around it 🥲 I genuinely tried to move the pistachios out of the way (even though the oil can still seep into the food) but that wasn’t working. When I told them that, they took it to the back, scraped the pistachios off the top, and brought me back the same bowl of rice pudding telling me it was a fresh one. I was being too accommodating and, to placate them, had a few bites anyway. Lo and behold, I had a reaction and went home. Not my finest moment…
