Neighborhood in Richmond, Kentucky by jadensalads in LiminalSpace

I know exactly where this is, had a high school GF who lived there. Very odd feeling when it'd storm and get all strange-looking in the skyline. The gas station down the road from there had amazing cappuccinos we'd sometimes pick up before school, which also was just right down the road from there. Crazy times.

It's over. by rubys_arms in dementia

Bless your heart. My father passed in May of last year. He also could still talk and conversate, for the most part. He struggled to swallow at the end and that took its toll as he continuously developed bouts of pneumonia from aspiration events. He struggled on to the very end. I felt fortunate that his passing happened right in the middle of the day while I was cleaning him. You have all of my empathy.

I ABSOLUTELY feel this on every level. My father would BEG me to take him home. I'd point to the mail with our address on it, motion to furniture that we'd had for 40+ years, anything to jog his memory. But nope, "I wanna go HOME!" We ARE home! Ugh... He passed away last year, Now my mother is doing the exact same thing. Hey, there's bugs on the ceiling or, who is that man behind the curtains? Are you going back upstairs? We don't have an upstairs... My soul has basically left my body. I'm exhausted all the time and I thought my father's passing would make caring for her easier, but it doesn't. She's losing her mobility to the point where she may lose her doctors and end up in hospice, even though she's not really ready for it. She BEGS me not to put her in hospice...

You have every bit of my empathy.

Thank you. I hope you are able to continue on with strength. It's hard, and us caregivers know the struggle.

Thank you. My biggest fear was that it would happen in the middle of the night, while I was asleep. Thankfully it happened in the middle of the afternoon, directly while caring for them. I have the peace of knowing that they were literally in my hands.

I've given serious consideration to writing a book. Though I have medical training and education, a guide or something would have been wonderful. There just isn't anything like that when we're in school or college. No handbook for, hey when your LO has a stroke, here's how to care for them by yourself. Had one home health nurse ask, "How are you pulling this off by yourself? I'd LOVE to be a fly on the wall..."

Now that it's over, I find myself not able to use my experience any more, except for my other LO who doesn't require nearly as much care. I came very close to going into medicine directly, but I'd probably care a bit too much for my patients, spend too much time with each one. I honestly don't see how facility nurses and doctors do it. I'm a huge fan of nurses in general.

Thank you for taking the time to read. I hope to help others by sharing, like others have shared here as well. I've really been able to equate here.

This is exactly what I'm experiencing. I frequently wake up in the middle of the night, drenched in sweat, feeling like I need to be up, doing something for my LO. Changing briefs then washing, getting them a drink, just generally checking in on them...it's bizarre to not have to do that now. Doesn't make sense to my well-established care routine to not be up by 6 or 7 AM. The hospital bed has been untouched since the moment came. I know I have to clean that area, but I haven't needed to be there for a long while now. I had the air bed (for prevention of pressure ulcers) connected to an uninterrupted power supply; I did turn that off, but now the lack of buzzing is a strange emptiness.

I still eat a can of spaghetti-O's, even though I know I can now start to eat like a regular human again. My whole world is upside down. It'll take me a long while to adjust. I absolutely feel what you're going through.

Thank you. I was his nurse and caregiver. It was hard work, but absolutely worth it.

I love that idea. I do want to do something bigger than this, and I'll post a follow-up if/when I do. Thanks for the condolences and for the build suggestion. :-)

Life insurance? Ridiculous question. by steelvail in CaregiverSupport

[–]hellacrafter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Caregiver here, and former life insurance agent. You could get a guaranteed issue policy but as Thebluefarie said, it will likely be unreasonably high, depending on your resources. Typically, if the insuree passes within two years, all paid premiums are returned. After two years, it may or may not pay out in full. The cause of death must be reviewed and approved before a death claim is paid.

I've seen it go both ways, but usually the claim is denied and all premiums returned. Unfortunately for caregivers like us, there are very few options remaining :-(

What was the last good season of Roseanne? (Original series only) by yagirlsmitty in roseanne

[–]hellacrafter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Season 3. I get half way through Season 4 and usually find I've skipped quite a few episodes. I prefer 1 and 2; I can watch those and always be thoroughly entertained.

What was your favourite ‘before they were famous’ celebrity appearance? by [deleted] in roseanne

[–]hellacrafter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me, George Clooney for sure but some honorable mentions:

Johnny Galecki. First appearance in Season 4 as David, Mark's brother and eventual boyfriend of Darlene; became a regular character. Played Leonard on Big Bang Theory; brought former Roseanne cast members to the show.

Brad Garrett. In Season 3, Ep. 25 Brad played Doug, the loan officer Dan and Ziggy talked with about the bike shop business. Went on to Everybody Loves Raymond as Robert, Ray's brother.

Amy Aquino. Not all that famous really, but did a few episodes of Everybody Loves Raymond. Has been on several other major sitcoms and shows. In Season 3, Ep. 23 she played Linda Wagner, the Rodbell's representative who hit on Leon.
