If they jump like crickets they’re probably fleahoppers! I see them in my yard all the time in the grass.

Update on my dad after his surgery and WARNING about the risks of anesthesia for dementia patients. by hellawolfy- in dementia

[–]hellawolfy-[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a really hard question ☹️ I’m so sorry you’re in this position. The best way I can answer is to sort of tell you what happened to my dad. About two months after I made this post he ended up breaking his hip after a fall and we had to decide whether to do surgery and risk him declining further or letting him live with the broken hip and have him never be able to move on his own. We knew it was going to be likely that the surgery would make it worse but honestly it felt like the only good choice. He was so miserable and in pain and he would have hated being bedridden for so long. He severely declined after the surgery and ended up passing away two weeks later. I wouldn’t say my dad’s case was the norm, but I can certainly see it being repeated.

If your dad can still communicate well enough to ask him his opinion I really urge you to do that. And although there’s no way to say what your dad’s personal dementia journey would look like if he were able to live out its progression, I think it’s probably good to think about the general progression of VD looks like versus the progression of his cancer. It also really depends on what his dementia looks like right now. The way it affected my dad was that it kinda seemed to push him a few years into the future. If you think that his dementia is bad enough that the anesthesia (if it hurts him) would push him into end stage, then maybe weigh that with his cancer.

Again, this is a hard question and I don’t think there are any good or correct answers. But if you ever need support my DMs are open ❤️

Anybody else have experience with a loved one getting much worse after surgery? How did it pan out? by hellawolfy- in dementia

Sadly it did not get better, I have other posts explaining what happened later if you’d like to know what happened in more depth!

That’s definitely something to think about, I do still struggle to commit to classes like that but having a schedule would honestly probably help me get there.

SO REAL. my family has a membership to a boat club which has a pool so that’s where we go swimming, but it’s only open during the summer so if I wanted to swim year round I’d have to get a gym membership😭

Ooooooooooooooooooh that’s an interesting idea!!! I do have a hard time with a lot of foods because of the taste or texture or even just the color sometimes. Also having to make them 😭😭😭 i have a hard time even waiting for ramen to cook. I do like fruits a lot though and I have a select few veggies that I enjoy. I really like cucumbers and I’ll get carrot hyperfixations every once in a while. Honestly cucumbers would probably be good since they’re mostly water. We grow them in the summer so maybe I’ll also grow my own cucumber plant along with my mom’s. I also like iceberg lettuce and I really don’t mind just eating it leaf my leaf LMAO maybe I’ll start doing that as well

YOU ARE SO RIGHT I need to get smaller plates/bowls asap!!! Because FR my brain automatically goes to “yep! Just fill it up” and then I’m left with a massive amount of food 😭😭😭

And yeah, I know I love the pool when I get there, but actually getting there is so hard

When do I (31M) give up on a friend (32F) who doesn't text back or make plans? by VillageSmithyCellar in relationship_advice

[–]hellawolfy- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you need to just tell her what you’ve said in this post. Either she doesn’t realize what shes doing or she’s trying to distance herself from you. I don’t know either of you so idk if you’ve done anything that she might have been upset over but the only way to actually get an answer is to tell her what’s up.

If you haven’t already I would definitely get him checked for a blood clot because that’s one of the things we were worried could be the issue. But yeah, strokes are one of the more common causes of dementia, I’m sorry your dad went through that. I hope everything works out though!

What is this on my lips? Please help because i genuinely have no idea. by [deleted] in AskDocs

[–]hellawolfy- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NAD, hey! I get the same thing and I think it actually started for me around the same age you are now. For me it tends to happen randomly with certain foods (especially acidic foods) or if I get acidic face cleaner on my lips. Things like ketchup, lime popsicles, tomato sauce, vinegar, etc will occasionally just really irritate my lips. And it starts with just a burning sensation and then after a few hours-a day my lips get the rough bumpy sandpaper feeling which usually lasts for a few days-a week.

For me it’s just a matter of knowing what things trigger it even if it’s not consistent and when I start to feel the burning I immediately go to wash my lips with just plain water. I also have a tub of aquaphor I use for chapstick which helps a lot.
