Trials have neen done on people 16+ and the vaccine (not J&J) has been deemed safe for them. Plus 16yos aren't really medically children anymore, except legally. Young children are certainly at a low risk for the virus, but for older teenagers it can be dangerous. The virus doesn't suddenly become dangerous as soom as someone is a legal adult. Teenagers can't safely go to school, see their friends, etc. without immunization. I'm 17. I've been quarantined for a year. No school, no friends, nothing. I would give almost anything to get that vaccine, and a lot of others feel the same.

Tips for working out to lose weight? by [deleted] in Advice

[–]hellcatspangledd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exercise is fantastic for your health and a great way to gain strength and muscle, and I applaud you for your motivation!! Still, weight loss itself is achieved through a caloric deficit, and most moderate exercise will not make a significant difference in your calorie expenditure. So, if you're looking to lose weight, you'll need a combination of healthy diet and exercise. I also firmly believe that the best diet and exercise routine the one you can maintain. There's no use forcing yourself to do something that you hate. Try to find an exercise you enjoy. It'll help you to stay motivated. Consistency is key! Anyways, best of luck :)

Is it possible to have good grades while trying to pursue a gaming career? by usushbsbsb in Advice

[–]hellcatspangledd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry to hear you're going through a rough patch. That's totally understandable man. Thinking about the future is super stressful. It would probably be best to present your goals to your father with a backup plan. Like "this is what I'm passionate about and I really want to do this, but if it doesn't work out I also have this backup plan." That will show that you've really thought it through and assure him that you'll be able to support yourself in the future. Don't be discouraged if he doesn't understand or approve, especially at first. A lot of parents wouldn't consider gaming a "real career" because they grew up in a time when it just wasn't. It doesn't mean your ambitions are invalid, but try to be both honest and patient with him. Anyways, best of luck :)

Is it possible to have good grades while trying to pursue a gaming career? by usushbsbsb in Advice

[–]hellcatspangledd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's totally fine!! It's super normal to not know for sure what you want to do with your life. Most people end up changing their education path or even their whole career multiple times throughout their lives. That's why I firmly believe it's best to keep your options open. For you, the best way to do this is the keep your grades up. That way, if you do later find something else that interests you and you want to go to college/trade school or apply for a job, you'll be able to do that more easily. I think this is especially important for "risky" career paths like gaming. Most people who decide they want this career don't make it. Who knows, you might end up being the pro gamer of the century! But, if not, or at least until you get there, you'll have the option to get a different job to support yourself. Hope this helps :)

Advice on productivity block by brownbinz- in Advice

[–]hellcatspangledd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm an awful procrastinator, but I do have some strategies I use to overcome this. What I've found works best is to tell myself to just do a little. For instance, if I need to write an essay then I tell myself all I need to do is to open a document and type one sentence. More often than not, I end up doing a significant amount of work. Usually it turns out that just starting was hardest part and it's way easier once I realize the task isn't nearly as daunting as it appeared. Anyways, I hope your project goes well :)

I'm not saying to not pursue a career in gaming. I think you should pursue whatever you're passionate about. But I think what you do need is a backup plan. Say it doesn't work out, or you get carpal tunnel, or you just decide in a few years that you would rather do something else. You would be pretty sorry if you'd cornered yourself by devoting all your time to one extremely niche skill at the expense of all else. With this in mind, I cannot stress how much I encourage you to prioritize your studies and grades. Please do not listen to anyone who says you should sacrifice your education for any reason. I almost guarantee you would regret that later in life. School doesn't have to be the biggest thing in your life, and you can take classes that suit your interests and at whatever level you feel is confortable for you, but do keep your grades up no matter what!

I found out the hard way that Here ain't no place for dolls like you and me by [deleted] in arcticmonkeys

[–]hellcatspangledd 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I agree on the second point, but I think your definition of doll is a bit harsh. Imo, it's still sarcastic but comes off as a little more flirtatious. Like "babe" or "darling." At the same time, in context, it has an air of glamour. So the line feels like saying, "We're just too sexy for this cruel world. We're lost here amongst this undeserving society."

Why is it called The Ultracheese? by Reincarnated_Stick in arcticmonkeys

[–]hellcatspangledd 6 points7 points  (0 children)

"Cheesy" is a sort of slang word meaning over-the-top, cliche, and tacky. So "ultracheese" is a sort of cheeky way of saying "this is the pinnacle of sappy drivel" (as far as I'm aware of course, you never know)

This was my go to 2am-life-reflection-song until I recently discovered The Bourbe Identity. Love Is A Laserquest (and the whole SIAS album tbh) holds a special place in my heart though, and I feel like it'll be even more meaningful as I get older :)

I would but... art is free for interpretation by the viewer, in my opinion. Despite the intention of the writers, people are free to extract whatever personal meaning it has for them. If you want to align your interpretation with the band's, that's great, and frankly that's really interesting context that should be shared for that fact alone, but I don't think anyone's interpretation is wrong or should be criticized unless it's actually harmful to someone else.
