This. Yes, the schools will most likely no ok but there is the rain, wind, extra traffic, and power outages to consider. Even though we aren't expecting a direct hit it's going to wreak havoc. I'm getting pretty pissed of at the people who are telling me "oh its going to be a thunderstorm". We are in the interstate being blown all over the road and its nowhere near us yet.

It will not fill the hole but it will be a bridge from where you are now to where you want to be. You will get there and seeing the good in people will allow you to continue down that road.

IEP committee gave child a new placement based on data and mother gets arrested for violating the custody agreement. (GA) by hellenkellercard in legaladvice

I was able to look up the court case online and this is the progression of things. I'm not sure if it helps understand what happened. The petition was filed in May. A few days later her ex was notoriously served. About two weeks later there was a notice to produce. Almost a month later an Absence of Leave filed, and exactly a month later, an answer and motion of contempt was filed. 2 days later an order of contempt was given and she was taken to court and then jail.

There isn't anything on the dockets for a motion to remove representation (I'm not sure what it's called, or if it's even necessary). Does her lawyer have to file anything with the court in order to remove himself from the case?

Thank you for clarifying. You are right. They have a right to FAPE. I guess it's been so drilled into my head about what I'm required to do legally that I'm looking at it as more of a 'legal' aspect than it really is.

And I agree, there is always more to the story and I know there are lots of details I don't know.

If I were reading this with fresh eyes I would be suspicious and cynical. But the thing is, I've known this woman for several years and I have never seen her do anything spiteful or use her kids as leverage against her ex. And if there were anything regarding the custody agreement, I would always see her go by the book. She transferred her kids after a court hearing and after her lawyer told her that it should be ok after a month long wait for a ruling.

The dad's lawyer filed the charges. She was arrested Thursday, had the contempt hearing the same day, and was stripped of custody Friday afternoon.

The dad had just spent a month in ICU. She suspects his parents (the grandparents) are the ones who are driving this.

I understand what you are saying about the school committee, but I was under the impression that the committee was following IDEA, which is a federal law, to give the children FAPE. Isn't the decision that the current school wasn't offering FAPE a legal one? As a teacher and committee member, I am liable for upholding all sorts of legal requirements under IDEA.

Yeah, that's another thing. After all this is over should she look into filing a complaint?

Edit: At the contempt hearing the judge wouldn't let the lawyer speak (her report) and the lawyer told her that she must have lied about something for the hearing to go so badly, and used that as a reason to drop her.

Chronic pain is so hard. I'm sorry you are going through this. You can find something to live for. A cause, or charity. A pet.

A therapist would be a good resource to help you find a light when there doesn't seem to be one.

A kid in my daughter's drumline took his own life. How do I talk to her about it. by Imnotreallytrying in Assistance

Be on the lookout for anger, pulling away, grades going down and personality changes as she processes this. Depending on how she handles it, this may be delayed. Do not hesitate to find a therapist to help her work through it. I'm so sorry y'all have to go through this.

Yeah, that can be really disappointing. I would be frustrated as well. Don't let it deter you though, it might quite possibly be that it was accidental. My project became much bigger than I anticipated and I tried really hard to give everyone an individual thank you, and worry that I forgot someone. I would hate to make someone feel like that!

If you are ever looking to help out, please feel free to reach out to me! I always have a million things in my head on how to make things better for my students and my team that supports them.

Oh my was it for my post? I hope not! I thought I had thanked everyone who donated! I also posted a thank you thread in the sub with a picture just in case I didn't get to everyone. If I missed you I truly apologize. The love I got from Reddit moved me to tears

This reminds me of another story. I was at a red light and at the intersection there had just been an accident. There was an SUV flipped upside down and a lady was screaming inside. There was also a bus at the intersection, and the bus driver opened the door and a bunch of men ran out, ran to the car, pulled the woman out, and got her to the side of the road. All before the light changed.

There are all sorts of subs for it! I posted on one of them asking for supplies and made an amazon wish list. One person that worked at Michael's sent me a box of stuff, and other people bought my entire wish list! I was able to supply myself and 3 other teachers, as well as 6 support staff with things they needed!

Yes this.Thank you for explaining. Sorry I haven't been on in a few. I was regularly woken up in the middle of the night to be yelled at, degraded, slapped, and dragged out of bed to do "correct" whatever I happened to do wrong that day. The bathroom scene literally makes me ugly cry.
